Hold the traction control button for 8 seconds to turn stability control off. I think it auto turns back on over a certain speed, but see how that works for you :)

You have to do this. But yeah, it won't completely let you go wild. If the truck thinks you're getting too out of control it will still correct you.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Had to do this all the time with my 2011 just to drive it in snow, I hate traction control, glad I don't have to worry about it on my 04.

    Getting there...
Come to a complete stop. Press and hold until the Auto LSD light goes off. You're good until you restart your truck. Unless you do the kill mod.

If you have a TRD OR or SR5 it basically leaves you with open diffs, which just spins, but doesn't drift well.

I found this out screwing around in a parking lot full of leaves a few weeks ago. If I did nothing with any of the traction aids, the truck would correct at the slightest hint of oversteer or traction loss.

If I hit the button quickly, the Auto LSD comes on, and the traction light. This appears to allow the fishtail like action, but only for a few seconds before the truck auto-corrects itself.

Holding button for 8-seconds or so, turned the Auto-LSD off, and basically allowed what seemed like generous wheel spin, but it wasn't really letting me drift or slide, since it was just a one wheel peel.

Seems like when the Auto-LSD is on, you get Posi-like action out back, but the computer won't really let you play in that mode.

I have the 2.7l SR5 and if I want the back end to kick it is a very simple task. Come to full stop and push traction button in for a five count, you can start rolling slowly at four and everything will still turn off. At 15 to 20 I push in the clutch, give it gas and let the clutch out smooth but quick. I can grab third if I run wheel speed out to 30's and shift quick. 25 to 30 is the same but third gear and can get fourth if run wheel speed up again. It is all smooth and controllable with practice. I only do it on roads that aren't heavily traveled and not on blind corners. I have been hanging the back end out at 40-45 actual speed at close (within 1/3 to 1/4 turn of wheel) to full lock since last winter. There is no clunking or banging when done on slippery roads.

ETA: Personally I don't like the A-LSD for fun because it breaks the spinning wheel, which limits acceleration of the wheels. In some situations it allows you to gain speed but not all. The A-LSD does allow you to maintain speed in semi deep snow with wheel spin if you are 2k and above in RPM's, but in deeper snow it will just slow you down and finally bring you to a stop. With a little work you can get back end to kick out on gravel/snow with all traction controls off and accelerate wheel speed to grab another gear. This is with the 2.7l so the 4.0l might be able to gain speed with just A-LSD on.

On my 2015 if I hold the button down for 3 second while it park it will turn traction control off and it stays off till I hit the button again or turn off the truck.

Well, yes... to a degree... and the thing the slider wants to turn off is the VSC (which is paired with the traction control in most modes).

Seriously, one should appreciate having a great vehicle and drive it for years and years, not do stunts with it as if it is a skate board and daddy will buy you another if it breaks.

Here's how I would describe the button process:

You don't have to put the tranny in Park, just STOP moving.

*Press the VSC OFF button (while stopped) and hold it in until the light comes on (~3-5 seconds).

    * Until you press the button again, or restart your truck, the VSC and TRAC will stay off... UNLESS you drive in a dangerous manner!!! In which case the VSC will come back on to prevent you from wrecking your truck.

    ========================================================

Now, the real reason Toyota has that button to turn off VSC is for when you are stuck in snow and need to spin the tires to fling the snow out of the tread when enhanced traction control didn't get you moving (Enhanced in H2: AUTO LSD/ in H4 '12+: TRAC OFF MODE). 2009-2011 H4 is normally in enhanced traction control. 2012+ requires a quick press of the VSC OFF button.
