Dynamat Substitute at Home Depot?

i'm telling you bro give rick a call and he will give you a deal that not even dynamat can match or come close too...

not to mention the raamat/ensolite and 20x IMHO then dynamat...dynamat is just a brand name stuff that is pushed by people like chip foose...guys like chip foose get payed every single time they say dynamat...by no means am I saying that dynamat is a POS...but like I mentioned before best bang for you buck is RAAMAT & Ensolite hands down...

 

T0LLPHR33 You should setup a group buy on TW, or at least see if there's some interest and what kind of a discount Rick might be able to give. I'd be in for it, I wanna quiet my cab down a bit on the highways myself.

How had is it to place the mat on the inside of the door. Also so you have any hints to make lining the inside of the door easier?

 

Installing on the inside of the door is easy. Once you take off that plastic sheeting and the door speaker you can reach about everywhere inside the door, even with a roller tool. I did all 4 doors and changed out all the spaekers in about 6 hours, and that was both inside and outside the door. Once you get the hang of it on the first door it is easy.

 

I can call rick and make a feeler thread...i just don't know how much more of a discount or $$$ you guys will be saving...

I didn't know this...but I'm sure rick hooks everyone up...

the inside of the door is pretty easy...what made it easier for me at least for the door panels was cutting 4"x4" pieces of raamat and applying them 1 at a time overlapping maybe 1/8"...the ensolite is better if you can apply it in 1 solid piece...it tends to stretch a lot but too much stretching can rip the ensolite...

best way to do this mod is over several weekends...you don't want to rush yourself cause you got work on monday and you only have half the truck done and still need to reinstall the panels...what I did is do the passenger side panels 1 weekend...following weekend take off the done panels and copy what I did on the driver side (by doing this you don't have to eyeball or remember where all the screws and pops go back into the door when reinstalling the door panels. by having both sides door panels off you can use the completed side as reference that way you know where you can and can't place raamate/ensolite...once you install any sound deadning material the gap is significantly reduced almost to nothing so its a lot harder to put the door panels back on...

another thing is work with 1 or 2 other partners...2 is perfect cause you won't get in the way of each other...3 can get hectic cause you may start to misplace tools and what not...but you can still manage to keep everything organized if you sort things out and keep everything in its designated pile...

I think I will be doing this when I get back to AZ. I might try to setup a decent mic and get before/after certain parts are done. Floor, floor + backwall, ect.

I too would like to quiet my truck down, but with 2 kids I don't exactly have a lot of free time to spare so I'd really like to slim it down to the best bang for the buck items. Seems like in my AC the worst area is the rear seat area, so I think I will start there, maybe...

 

I insulated my truck with RAAMMat NXT. It made a huge difference on everything except the wind noise from the windshield and windows. I highly recommend it.


...oh, and I am doing a write-up on it as we speak.

FYI with raamat, a half roll was enough to go three doors in my access cab.

 

do you notice a difference? How long did three doors take? so a whole roll would do the whole truck right?

 

I have a reg-cab 5-lugger with a bench seat, so my rear cab wall has nothing on it... no trim at all... just bare metal. I'm pretty sure a layer of Rammat on there would cut down on quite a bit of noise.

So... what areas make the most difference? I assume the back wall and the doors - since the floor and roof have at lease *some* insulation - or do they make a big difference as well?

 

don't forget about the floor...that's where most of the road noise comes from...roof helps out a lot especially if you have a sub that can hit hard...eventually things will get loose...the roof is always good as well...
