Taco sounds like it is engine braking constantly

Hello all, my 07 Tacoma 4x4 TRD has recently started making a noise that sounds a bit like engine braking. The noise is relative to speed (i.e. if I spin the rear tires on a wet road, the noise doesn't start until I hit about 10mph with the front tires). The noise also disappears on right hand turns until I straighten back out. The noise is present on all left hand turns.

I am not a mechanic or even that mechanically inclined but have checked the u-joints and have just recently jacked up the front wheels and checked for any play. Neither of the front wheels moved at all other free spinning. The drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential spins freely. Both wheels spin freely.

Any ideas would be very helpful

 

I do want to note that this is a new noise and separate from the actual engine braking the truck performs, that is just the closest sound I can relate it to.

There is also a slight vibration that I can feel on the floorboard that seems to go with the noise.

Ok, thanks! I'm assuming I need to replace the whole wheel bearing assembly?...looking for one now.

 

I don't know enough about it to tell you. Do a search on here for wheel bearings and see if the symptoms match what you're experiencing!
