Ha ha considering that ABS prevents wheel lockup and reduces braking I would think people who like ABS would simply remove brakes and steer to avoid accidents.
No brakes no wheel lockup all in steering. The rest of us would like to have brakes.

One thing though.... sharp turn in 4hi ... going to cause binding and slipping of tires by nature. Already down on traction because of that, paired with high psi MT tires on a sheet of ice, not much you could do. I have had that happen without even touching the brakes simply due to the binding nature of not having a center diff.... sometimes its almost better to drive around in 2HI, and only flip to 4hi when necessary so turns can be made.

I am looking at the posted picture, and it distinctly shows 4 output lines, one to each wheel. Not sure what you are trying to indicate with the picture. There are two lines from the master cylinder, and 4 out. So that is a 4 wheel ABS system in the photo.

It doesn't just use 4 wheel speed sensors. It also uses a yaw-rate sensor which measures deflection from straight line, so if you start to slide sideways, the yaw sensor can pick this up, and it is used as an input to the ABS and TCS system.

To be fair, when driving on an icy road (As you described it) it wouldn't matter if you had ABS or not. If a tire cannot get traction on the ice, NOTHING is going to stop the truck short hitting an object. (as in this case) So while it did suck, I really don't think having or not having ABS would have changed anything in that specific situation. The ice and tires did not get along.

Yes, believe it or not, even the manufacturers will tell you that in most cases ABS will increase the stopping distance, but will typically allow you to maintain more control of the vehicle. But yes, it DOES increase stopping distance in most all cases.

So can a sheet of ice on the road, and/or bad tires. I don't care HOW skilled a person is at driving, if you are on icy road conditions, and your tires lose traction, NOTHING short of hitting something is going to stop your vehicle.

You are not understanding the concept/operation of ABS. A sliding tire, (i.e. "locked up") gets hot quickly, and looses its traction. Loosing traction will remove your ability to steer or have any control. ABS is designed to apply the maximum amount of braking force to individual wheels, to the point of lockup, which gives you the BEST stopping in any condition. (Bar the heavy snow drifts where plowing is a factor)Not to mention that a major advantage that ABS does have that you CANNOT do, is it can apply the appropriate amount of brake force to EACH wheel, allowing those that have the most friction to get the most brake force, thus the better stopping ability. This allows a driver to have better control of their vehicle in these situations. Again, yes I have agreed that the Tacoma system has a lot of issues, but go drive a vehicle with a good ABS system, and you will then notice a REAL difference.
