So i picked up a TRD Pro insert for $389 from Roman at Cool Springs Toyota in TN. I've got the whole grille off and have remove the silver Torx screws from the insert, but for the life of me can't figure out how to, or in what order, to separate the insert from the color surrounds. What tool do you use to pop out the plastic bayonet connectors that hold the upper rubber gasket without breaking them? Im assuming the gasket comes off first? Any help would be great.

And FYI, the method of attachment of the insert to the color surround on the TRD Sport Grill on a 2015 is different than what Homer Taco's video shows. There aren't any melting points, just a ton of tabs that are tightly snapped into the color surround. I'm trying to avoid breaking any tabs by asking here from any of the guys who have replaced their standard insert off a 2012+ Taco to the TRD Pro insert.

    Thanks,

Just pinch them and lift up on the gasket. It's important to install the gasket before mating the grill halves.

As for the torx, just remove them all then separate the plastic clips. Automotive trim tools are helpful.

I have all the torx out. how do you "separate" the clips? they're tight as heck. do i need to remove the gasket at the top first, then separate the clips in any particular order?

Trim tools? Do I need to destroy the OEM insert then to remove?

No not at all. Just as long as u put it on before sticking them together. Yeah the clips are tight. I used trim pry tools to help things along without snapping any.

You could always snap them off if you're just going to dispose of your stock insert.

Just got mine today from my local dealer. $435 with employee discount. All I had to do was provide them with a PRO Vin I found online.

value is subjective, I often think how expensive weather tech floor liners cost, considering how little material costs go into them.
