Hey wonding if you guys can help me out.
I have a 2008 Tacoma Prerunner DBL cab 4.0l auto and it lurches pretty hard while waiting at stop lights. I have searched on here and found 1 post on it with no info other then others have felt it also. Has anyone figured out what it is or better yet how to fix?

There is a fix for this. Search for defrost or A/C wire mod. This will allow you to have windshield defrost on, but without the compressor.

How fast do you come to a stop??

With my own truck.... If I come to a stop quickly, the lurch is from the transmission downshifting after you come to a complete stop.

He's talking about the engine being under load while stopped with the a/c on.

Yes it after im stopped, while still stopped it will lurch forward. makes sense that it would be from A/C kicking idle up. But cutting off power to compressor will kind of negate the defroster. Will do a little more checking and just have to deal with it.

Yoi still get hot air, just no a/c removing the water from the air.

I wonder if this is a symptom of the transmission being low on fluid?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I don't know but if you are stopped and the truck is lurching/pushing forward, I would think the torque convertor isn't releasing like it should when the brakes are applied. Perhaps a weak/stuck solenoid in the transmission.

I can't remember when...sometime in the last 8 years of owning my truck (mine is an 07)... I had the dealer check the transmission fluid. It was fine....

I don't think its much of a mechanical issue (per say) versus an ECU program thing.... Perhaps they've fixed the situation in the newer trucks??

    The Op has an 08...??

Ive had it happen too on older vehicles with the trans downshifting maybe 3 seconds after stopping, just a symptom of age and wear i think. How many miles on this truck? Have you used to tow anything very often?
