Ok so use to have a first gen and sold it, then got a second gen. Got tired of making car payments and wanted a paid off truck again. We were looking for a 4 door but she has a 4 door car for a baby but she won't be working anymore so we nixed getting a 4 door truck.

Today i stumbled upon this. A 2004 v6 trd with 160k. It had two owners and the carfax was clean. Motor is super quiet and everything works great except for the right side of the dash cluster won't illuminate. I think its just a bulb.

I got her for 10k OTD. seemed fair with a camper shell and in good condition.

anyone have the issue of a bulb burning out in the dash cluster? I don't think the cluster is bad since the ext power light lights up when i push it. Its only the speedometer that doesn't light up.

Also it did go into toyota for the frame coating in 2007. I verified this with toyota. Does this mean the frame wasn't bad? I know i should of done research before but took a leap of faith.

awesome and it has grey interior...I just got my tacoma as well and my cluster is burned out from the left hand side. I figure there are about 4 bulbs, went to the dealer and ask for the bulb left side on the cluster. He says there are about 10 bulbs...He was being a dick, I'm sure he could have helped me out. Anyway I didn't buy the bulb as there are 2 sizes according to him. Each bulb was 7 dollars and change.

I crawled under when i went to pick it up but it was dark and only had a flashlight. Couldn't go back later since it was far away from my home. Anyways just got it in the garage and the underside looks good there are a few spots where the coating is flaking off and it looks rusty underneath!!! Should i worry?

Nice truck! Not a fan of the color but it should serve you well! The dash cluster lights going out is a common problem. My 04 double cab only had 75k on it when I got it and the ones on the temp gauge and half the tachometer were out and still are. Planning on doing an LED conversion this summer when I dump some money in my truck.

So far, she needs timing belt/pump replacement as well as rebuilding the rear drive shaft. Figured I'd just do my dash lights then, drive shaft will be in the shop for about a week so there will be plenty of time! Going to do my timing belt too to save money.

My cluster is EXACTLY like this. Someone on here mentioned it could be a faulty fuse causing this. Still haven't checked all my fuses yet but I will start there.

Ill try that first then check fuses. If there not blown then ripping the dash apart it is.

There isn't much ripping involved, I can have the gauge cluster out of the truck given 15 mins. Really only requires a 10mm nut driver (or ratchet with extension), stubby #2 Philips screwdriver, normal #2 Philips screwdriver, and a careful hand.

I have replaced my stereo multiple times, done the heater core once, and changed my cluster lights a couple of times and pretty much the entire interior of the truck comes apart with just those tools.

If you need any help lemme know! :)

Gotta love the red. It looks like the topper is made for a regular cab, not an extended cab.

The bulbs are easy enough to replace. While you're at it, I'd order all new bulbs, and get a different color. I switched over to blue and really liked it. It wasn't expensive, and I believe they were LEDs. Better to change them all while it's out, then to have to do it over.

Also, plan on more then 15min to get that cluster out.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Im taking her to the toyota dealership to see if i can talk them into re doing the frame. It looks like they just slopped that junk on there. It live it Massachusetts its whole life and now in Kentucky.

Im probably going to change out the spark plugs too. The timing belt was changed right before I got it and the damn thing purrs like a kitten its so quiet!

The auto trans shifts smooth too but will probably do a flush on all fluids just to have it in my records and a basis to start from.

Well, as far as the flaking is concerned on the frame, I'd tap those areas with a hammer to see if it's solid. These frames rust from the inside out up front by the engine. And in the rear, but it's a c channel back there and it's a little easier to inspect.
