I currently have a 102'' whip. I was wondering if i should get a fiberglass antenna, cause im going wheeling in a few weeks and i dont want hurt anyone, i know the whip could hit someone in the eye.

If i do get one where should i get it. Radioshack??

How big? and should i get 2.

Should i mount it to my toolbox or one that come through the crack in the hood(cant remebedr what those are called)?

i am very happy with this antenna. good reception and its very flexy so it wont snap. i would mount it on the toolbox if you want a permanent mount. just drill holes in the tool box and mount the mount on there, then seal it with caulking or somethin

I had an long whip on my old Hilux back in the day. When I went wheelin, I tied the tip down to the front, like on the military Humm V's. It was mounted at the back of the bed, so I arched it over to the front. Everything just brushed right over it.

i used to run the same whip antenna on my old 91 and 94 toyotas as you have... i would just leave it if you like it. i never had any issues out of mine while offroad... plus with those you never have to worry about it breaking from tree contact....

Good luck tuning that thing. I have a 3' firestick and could not get it to tune on either the FJ or the Tacoma. I ended up getting a 4' Firestik for the FJ and a 4' K40 Super-flex for the Tacoma. I was able to tune both of them down to a reasonable SWR level. I recommend the K40, superflexible and over all a nice lightweight antenna.

Walcott CB has them for $23

ive had my whip on for awhile...run with it on many a trail...

i have various methods for tying it down when need be...

    -tuck it in the bedliner
-remove the hook from a black rubber strap and hook one end to the bed and then run the tip of the antenna thru the eye where the 2nd hook was
    - tie it down with rope

I was able to tine the 3' down to about that but wasn't satisfied. Opted for the 4' antennas and have a SWR of 1.2:1 across the board. I also prefer a spring, seen to many snapped antennas up here. I guess in AZ there really is no need for one. Jumping cacti are a little more forgiving than the trees up here

Ok. does the 3' or 4' antenna mount to a standard cb mount? We could switch at the meet cause i still got to put the 102" whip on my tool box. I could just leave the mount. cause i took it off my truck when i got the tool box.

I didn't know about it either (and I've had two CB radios before :( ) so I googled it and found this:

    http://www.roadtripamerica.com/Equipment/How-to-Tune-a-C-B-Radio-Antenna.htm

I found it very informative. Someone, who knows what they're talking about, might want to chime in on the info. provided in the link though
