    Hey bob,

How do you like those King springs swapped into the Icons? Are they the same spring-rate as the original ones, just longer?

    went from 13x650 to 14x700

barely any preload on the C/O as i sit...i sit about even with my 2.75" rear setup

i went straight to the 14x700, so i don't know how the difference would feel between the two...

I don't have much input on the snorkel heads, but was wonderingif you would be using these for daily driving, or just strictly for trails where its extremely dusty?

I am hesitant to get a snorkel do to the winter months with the regular head. Just curious if these heads will have a drastic effect on performance for day to day stuff. From what I read, they don't breath as well as the normal head. Also, would rather use one of these to deter people from throwing shit down the snorkel, freakin vandals. just looking for some input, sorry for clogging your thread

Those Top Spins are what are on some of our military vehicles. A few of them are made of a smoked clear plastic so you can see it spinning and speeding up as more air is drawn in. I'm sure you already get all sorts of crazy looks with the snorkel so imagine with one of those things on top. When they ask what it is, just tell them you are a storm chaser and it's your mobile doppler radar system.

i've used my donaldson for daily driving before...during the winter i was going to run it full time until my last precleaner decided to involuntarily find a new home...

i saw a big difference in the air quality while wheeling in UT...pre cleaner vs airflow hat

as far as performance, it's still better than pulling from the wheel well IMO

with the airflow, the diameter hose is constant from the factory components to the snorkel intake...with the clean air being pulled in, it's still a benefit...

will you have more air forced into the system with the airflow hat? of course

will you have better air quality using the precleaner over factory? yes

i'm no expert in airflow data, but the Topspin has an operating flow range of 200-400 CFM and the sy-klone has 275-350 CFM

the precleaner i had before from donaldson had 330 max CFM

Ive been asked multiple times about my periscope!

    I vote topspin bob!

both are about the same size... <9" x <6"

both would require a 4-3.5" reducer

    topspin = aluminum

sy-klone = hard plastic and slightly lighter

both are already black (topspin will require taking off their sticker)

airflow very similar between the two.

    topspin is about $100 cheaper

Thank you for the information. So I guess these are a better alternative since they don't have the prefilter which could find a new home as you say. Plus they have the 'turbine' which is good as well.

Yeah I read that as well, but I have also heard the opposite, where they become clogged. Just trying to be preventative I guess.

    interesting little piece of information...

    http://india.donaldson.com/en/engine/support/datalibrary/065857.pdf

    4-Cycle Engine Airflow Calculation
( Engine Size (CID) x RPM/3456) x Volumetric Efficiency = Intake Airflow (CFM)

    Volumetric Efficiency
    4 cycle Gas Engine - N/A = 0.7 to 0.8

    so....
    Engine size = 241.4 CID (1GR-FE)
    ((241.4 x 2000)/3456) x .8 = 111.76 CFM @ 2000 RPM
    ((241.4 x 4000)/3456) x .8 = 223.52 CFM @ 4000 RPM
    ((241.4 x 5000)/3456) x .8 = 279.40 CFM @ 5000 RPM

or use the calculator here, http://www.carburetion.com/calc.asp

    @ 5000 RPM
    stock engine=296 CFM
    mild built engine=331 CFM
    race engine=356 CFM

    @ 2000 RPM
    stock engine=118 CFM
    mild built engine=132 CFM
    race engine=142 CFM
