Turn off your TPMS light FOREVER!

I can't personally vouch for years other than a 2011 DCLB (my truck), but I don't see why Toyota would move things around much.

In the process of replacing my blown curtain airbags and ripped headliner yesterday, I found the TPMS Receiver box. Knowing my next set of tires I would be removing the sensors entirely, I tested what disconnecting the plug would do (light on? light off?).

This is super-simple!

The TPMS Receiver box is located above the headliner, DIRECTLY above the driver side coat hook. It's a black box about 2"x3"x1", with a single connector leading into it.
Disconnect the plug, and the light will never turn on again. I removed mine entirely (single M8 nut...10mm wrench), drove around town, and didn't see the light come on.

While I had removed my headliner entirely, you should be able to do this with minimal dis-assembly of the interior.
You will need to remove BOTH rear coat hooks for sure: push a small flat-blade screwdriver under the front (hook side) lip, and twist the hook 90*, then pull it out. Then reach in from the outside through the rear window, pull down the headliner some, and either disconnect or remove the box (removal requires a 10mm wrench). The black box is located immediately above the driver side coat hook.

 

why not add a switch to your tpms like i did to my tacoma and yaris tpms module

wheels with no sensors ?, no problem, flip switch, deactivate tpms, no light on dash

sensors now back on vehicle ?, hit switch, tpms ready to alert when low

Well, I suppose if one prefers to add extra steps, parts, labor, and cost, then yeah, that would work.

And though I have the headliner down, I looked it over, and I strongly believe the receiver can be reached by removing the coat hook, then going through the back window and pulling down the headliner slightly and reaching an arm up under and disconnecting the connector. I doubt any further dis-assembly is required. The connector tab is, thankfully, one of the easier ones to release!

 

Awesome! Does yours have the stupid little antena on the roof? The TPMS thing you found seems to be in that area.

In the second pic, you should be able to see a large silver nut. That is the base of the XM antenna.

Are you sure this keeps the light off? It takes my truck time to realize the sensors aren't there. May be the same thing with the receiver. I would think if it can't see the receiver, it would eventually trip the light.

There is a quick easy wire tap-and-splice that you can do behind the HVAC controller. That's what I did.

What wires on the TPMS connector did you use? Is it the same wires shown on the Yaris link?

 

The circuit isn't complete with the receiver removed. Did the same to a 2005 Tundra.

 

I seem to remember a black box that looked like this behind my stereo in my 2006. Did they relocate it in the newer tacomas? Either way im tired of looking at the light, and also every person new to riding in my truck telling me the light is on...

So much heartache over a light. Mine has been on since I drove it off the lot 7 years ago. Blink blink blink, on. I can live with it.

 

I just followed the procedure below and installed a switch. I have two sets of rims and only one set have sensors, so the ability to enable/disable was a must for me. I have a 2011, so I needed to apply +12vdc to the blue wire as shown in the link below. Took less than half an hour to install and works great.

I don't understand what all the grief is about the TPMS. It does function as designed and actually tells you when a tire is low. 3 times I have gotten punctures on dirt roads in Maine from sharp shale pieces. The TPMS activated and I was able to stop and repair (I always carry a patch kit and compressor) before there was any damage to the tire.

Just seems like some people have a hair up their ass for no reason.
