I am looking to install OME suspension Lift on my 14 Tacoma SR5 Dbl cab, not sure if I should get the Dakar leaf springs? this is my first build wanting to lift it 3" I have also seen in other threads I don't need to drop the differential on 2nd gen Tacomas. I was thinking putting 32" tires instead 33". Let's here everyone's thoughts.

I want the same lift and springs for my 05. From what I've read the Dakar springs are great, much better than stock. Are you thinking of a different brand of leaf springs instead of the Dakars?

i was in the same boat, i opted to NOT get the Dakars with my lift. I was a bit nervous of the amount of lift with the Dakars so I did the AAL instead. Well fast forward 6 months and I pulled out the stock springs/AAL and put in the Dakars. Much better ride and load capacity. Plus I like the increased lift in the rear.

With the AALs I was still squatting in the rear with a 500lb load. And the AAL settled down to only give me about 1 inch of lift over stock.

The Dakars are a great spring! I do a good amount of towing and hauling and they have worked out perfectly. Make sure you buy new spring bolts and just cut the old ones out. Mine were a total PITA to pull out, no room to work. That would have saved me 2 hours and a good amount of aggravation.

I have the Dakar's with a camper shell and they ride a bit stiff but I'm happy with them

    I had Dakar's with a Shell.

I found them to have a way better ride than the stock springs. Way smoother on all terrain.

I will be adding then to my new 2013 Limited.

Another one here who went single AAL over replacement leaf pack. AAL lasted 3k miles before it started bro leaning hard. Swapped in the Dakars and no more squatting. Do it once, do it right..the FIRST time.

Now on to the diff drop debate:

Thanks for the input gentlemen glad I came to this forum. I think I am going to go with the Dakar since I do tow and haul. I do agree doing things right the first time. What about the Diff Drop, would I need it in a 2nd Gen?

I got the ome carrier bearing drop and axle shims but didn't get them installed. I do have a little shudder / vibration at take off. Anyone else get this vibration? Or does it ride better with axle shims and bearing drop kit?

I didn't use the axle shims, but I used the bearing drop. Haven't noticed any vibration.

I went full OME and so glad I did. My Tacoma is my part time landscaping truck, pulls a 6x12 trailer fully loaded. Best decision I ever did was put on the Dakars. Love it. Do it right the first time.

I just ordered a set of the OME to replace my stock springs, they're totally flat. Only thing that prevents my truck from sagging are the lift blocks. Now I ordered the shims, what's everyone's take on shims. The blocks I have already have the angle grinder onto them. There seems to be two schools of thought, the carrier drop or the shims. Me, personally, have used shims in past vehicles with success. Plus I've read horror stories with the carrier drop.

Any thoughts , shims or carrier drop?

I have the Dakars also with the 3 deg shims. At first they were giving me more lift than I wanted. Over 3". And, I had a very noticeable shudder at take off. I had the 3rd leaf from top removed and that lowered it a little and almost eliminated the take-off shudder. It's barely noticeable now and sometimes doesn't happen at all. The ride is less harsh than stock but still firm. I have a shell but other than that it's usually empty.
