Well, after watching everyone on here mod their trucks I figured I would give it try. The thing is I have been away from home and without tools so I wanted to see my rattle can abilities. I tinted my tail lights and third break light with VHT nite shades and I really like the results. I also debadged then painted them black also like the results. I tried to paint my chrome grille white using duplicolor super white. This did not go so well. I like the look, its something different but the color is really close just needs a little more shine. I put clear coat on but I think I need something with more of a gloss. I also attempted the BHLM, what a pain that was. I have a few spots where it scratched off while putting the light back together and broke a clip putting in back on the truck. The grille and BHLM just don't have the professional look I was hoping to get, then again I'm not a professional. Lesson learned. Just thought I'd share. I guess I can also always sand and paint again.

Don't be so hard on yourself, lights look great and at least you had the guts to try, I still haven't found the intestinal fortitude to do it myself.

thanks guys I appreciate the feedback
testedone... there are some write-ups about the badges on here but all I did was use some fishing line between the badge and paint and just used a sawing motion til they came off. took off the rest of the tape from the badge and truck spray painted 3-4 coats of krylon fusion gloss black and got some outdoor 3m tape cut it on the back of the badge and simply pressed it back on if you can't find the write-ups I can give you a more detailed explanation.

Man those white trucks are sharp! Looking good! Mud flaps off next weekend? I did the BHLM last week and had to keep telling myself to take my sweet time. The BHLM makes any truck look better IMO

Did any 1st gens come with blacked out heads from the factory? Mine were blacked when I bought the truck used, and judging from the previous owner being in his 60s he didn't do it. Casings don't appear to have ever been split open. Maybe he did do it and being in his 60s he took his time and really did it pro?

Aftermarket. Didn't think of that (surprised because I put JDM heads on my Corolla).

Maybe the old guy was an ex hot-rodder reliving his glory days? He lives in Tampa, I should look him up someday.

Where'd you get the paint? I'm looking at painting the chrome grill surround like you did, and maybe the grill itself. How much did you get and what did it cost you?

I ended up doing my BHLM twice, they were pretty good the first time around, but not perfect, so I feel your pain. Same applies to the grill also, you can always try again If you are not 100% happy with it. Truck looks good man, & pat on the back for having the balls to do it in the first place.

Just put them in the oven and take them apart. It's a simple process, all you need is a little patience. :)
