All kidding aside ecu failures can and do happen, but it is rare. A family member had an 02 Silverado that had an ecu failure when it was new and it was replaced under warranty and the replacement lasted for 8 years until it was totaled in 2010.

I always carry an extra ECU on a specially fabricated ECU Holder®, painted to match OEM truck color. The holder is a simple weld to the tailgate.

Peace of mind if I need to swap on the trails.

Sounds good. I've messaged Dave at Trends Auto to organize a super secret group buy, so far we're at $1282.00 each. If I get 17 more people on board the price goes to $3,234.00 ea. PM me for details....

I have been following this thread since it began . And, you're missing the point, along with a lot of other great suggestions others have supplied.

Me now thinks that you should just push your little problem down the street to your local dealer and smile when you get there. :)

Well those who were suggesting that didn't know if he had a V6 or 4 cyl at the time. Only V6 has an immobilizer.

We now know he has a 4 cyl, which does not have an immobilizer. So it certainly isn't an immobilizer issue!

We don't know that it isn't a bad battery.

OP, please take the battery to AutoZone to get load tested. I'll move on to next thoughts afterwards.

I'm insistent on that because I work in IT. You'd be amazed how many issues are fixed with a reboot. My point of saying that is to iterate how sometimes seemingly complex issues are fixed by something simple.

I'm not saying that I think that is the problem, but i think a load test is warranted. It will only cost you your time.

Sorry to jump in here, but what if you bought a used truck and don't have that metal tag? can you still get keys cut or will they charge you an arm and a leg?

So long as you have a master key (black key) you can have a key cut by a locksmith and programmed using the existing master key. There's a write up here that shows the process, I believe I quoted it earlier in this thread, first page maybe. My understanding is that if all keys are lost and you don't have the code you may need to replace the immobilizer system and get all new keys.

I wonder why there are constant referrals about the battery? Especially when it has been stated it turns over just doesn't get fuel or spark.. last time I checked if the battery was the issue it wouldn't turn over... even a weak battery will spark and power the fuel pump, especially since one of the first things he did was charge it over night. I know others have asked this, but I posted this 3/4 the way through after reading 10 times about the battery... HEY, maybe the tires are low! (sorry, just had to through that SA comment in) I do hope you get it fixed and let everyone know. good luck.

It's been almost a week now with no success.

This problem is over the OP's head, so he should take it too the dealer for repairs.

... or just push it down to the after-school pros working at AutoZone. They'll get it started in minutes.
