I just installed my dual USB adapter and thought I’d give more pictures.
this first one shows the BOTTOM location of the pin you need to press out to release the metal insert. There is one identical to it 180 degrees away. Both need to be depressed for easy removal but some have done it depressing only one.

this one shows what these looks like from the outside of the tube.

this third picture shows the pins holding in the plastic ring into the dash.

this plastic ring is hard plastic and the pins are hard to press. Luckily there are no ridges to stop it from moving. The metal tube come out into the vehicle

ok that’s how you are supposed to do it. I got a thin screwdriver blade under the plastic ring and twisted. Using a second larger screwdriver (both flat blade) I did the same. And slowly moved around the ring. The clips holding the plastic are at 9 & 3 o’clock.. also pushing from the back with your hand helps.

the wires are SHORT so I made an extension set, about 6”, so it was easier to install.

my new adapter has a threaded ring that goes on from the back side, get it into place before it’s all plugged in. Also be very careful, if you drop it it goes straight down behind your center console.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE? I really just need the front end opened...

      hope this helps.

      Brad
