You know, the looks, reliability ratings, and now this - 3rd gen looks worse. I just got done with the oil change on my 2007 1gr-fe less than an hour ago - the oil filter is so easy to get at right there on top of the engine and there's the catch basin for leaked oil from the filter. 14mm socket for the drain plug and your off to the races. Oil change in ten minutes without even hurrying. I remove my skidplate once in a while to clean it when I'm feeling like it, but I don't have to.

On my 2nd Gen 09 Tacoma, I always had to get underneath the truck to get the side-mounted filter out, which meant I had oil running down my arms, which always elicited a curse against Japanese engineering and what they were thinking. Now, that I have a 2016 4 banger, no worries. I have oil changes for life. Let the mechanic worry about it.
