adding 6x9 speakers

HI everyone;

I have a very plain and stock 1996 Tacoma 4x4 xtra cab. It only has door speakers and factory tape player so far and I would like to try a set of 6x9s in the back of the cab to go with them. I see there looks to be a place for them already in the "plastic grill" areas below the small windows in the extra cab.

So first question, I see now screws to unbolt the plastic grill, I guess my first step is to open that up and see if there is speaker wires already in there and see if the 6x9s will fit. So can anyone advise how those plastic grill covers come out of there?

Second, If there is no wire, can you tell me the best way to run some back to these compartments? Thanks everyone, let me know if you need any other info about the truck

So a screw driver will get the grills off and the area in is not made for 6x9s. I want to do this job right so is there after market adapter plates you can buy to make them fit?

 

You can pop a flat head into your speaker cover and it pops off. Otherwise if you spend 5 minutes back there pulling on things you will see how it all comes apart. Trust me, if you can put together an IKEA package, you can get the interior apart. I changed my rear seat belt a few weeks ago and it wasn't too bad. I'm looking at putting some 6*9s or 6*8s in my 96 in the next week or so. Hope it fits easy
