So I'm buying a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Acces cab with 77K mileage on it for $16,800. KBB had it listed in excellent condition for $17,300 and the going rate in the CT area seems to be around these numbers, (getting it in MA and they had it listed at $17,980 when I first called). I can't help but be a little nervous about this but the reason I picked a Tacoma was for the reliability so I'm hoping paying this much for a used truck with this amount of mileage will pay off rather than buying a different small/medium sized pick up (Colorado, etc.) I had leased new vehicles for the past 7 years and want a truck for home improvement work on my house. I had local mechanic take a look at it and was told the A/C line had a leak which the dealership said they would fix and the clutch sounded a little a little sticky which he indicated could be a bearing/clutch job down the line but wasn't sure, so the dealer knocked off another $500 (I said since i can't be sure i'd split the cost of a possible repair). The truck is nice looking and ran well (new tires, good breaks, not a lot of scratches, 1 previous owner) but I'm still second guessing. I pick it up Saturday while I wait for Registration and A/C hose repair. If taken care of should previously should I have any worries about a Tacoma with 77K on it? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

No worries. Not even broken it at 77k.

At 77k a Tacoma still has a lot of life left in it. It just depends on how you buy it - I would say financing over 3 years is good, but don't get a 72month payment plan for a vehicle that "old". Think about where the mileage will be by the time it is paid for.

Yeah, it's a 5 year financing plan, I drive about 12K a year so in 5 years I'll have around 137K, so it will definitely be up there, but i plan on taking good care of it and won't doing any towing or major hauling.

To me $17K for a 5-lugger, 2wd, 5 years old 4-banger manual with that much mileage seems a little high. It's practically bottom of the barrel in options. Personally I'd keep looking for an older one with less miles or more options. If you're in anyway hesitant, that's your instincts telling you don't do it.

137k will still leave a good chunk of resale value

My truck currently has 85k miles, I've head it since 27k miles and so far no real problems, just maintanance. I would not be worried too much if it checks out ok, and was properly maintained by the previous owner.

As for price, I can't really comment as I live in a different country, but if its the 5 lug 2wd as posted somewhere above me, for whats it worth that sounds expensive even for Canadian pricing actually...that's probably the price my DCSB 4x4 with similar mileage would go for after a bit of negotiating...

    It's a 4WD 4cyl 5spd Access Cab.

I have been looking for Tacomas since October in CT and the lowest I've seen is a $16,500 for I believe a 6 cylinder with 55K in decent shape, access cab as well. I know they aren't cheap. If the truck holds up well I'd be content with the price but buying used makes me nervous. If I bought a new Access Cab with the 4 cyl 5 spd i think i'd still be in the lows 20Ks for price.
