Does the stainless piece have threads on it? So you could separate the antenna from that and screw the stainless part back into the base?

It's supposed to...up in the mast of the antenna...that's the part that apparently not coming apart anymore

the bottom of the stainless part is smooth and I can push my antenna back down into place but i cannot unscrew the mast like normal

Sounds like you need both pieces...
Mavbe time to get a aftermarket stubby antenna, you won't need to remove at the car wash.

Looks like you're gonna need a mast and base. Hopefully you can save the mast somehow.

Yes Sir it appears to be broken. The whole cable will need to be replaced (PITA) it is clamped in a couple places and runs as you all the way to the head unit. It is probably clamped inside the fender well and behind the glove box. The Toyota parts person can show you a break down when you get a new cable. They are not that hard to replace just time consuming as you will need to remove the inner fender and glove box and head unit. Degree of difficulty 3

If I could figure out how to separate the stainless part from the actual antenna...i think I'd be OK as long as the threads aren't boogered up

I'm worried they may be though

The stainless shaft I think is the socket that the antenna screws into and it is broken and needs to be replaced as it is part of the cable that goes to the head unit.

It doesn't go all the way to the head unit, there's a connector on the passenger A pillar. You just need to remove that and the glove box to access the clip that secures the wire to the body.
