    The way I understand it as follows:
    When you drive, this causes your rear differential to warm up (like everything else). As it warms up, there is a "breather" valve on the differential that will open up and pull in air or release heat.

    If you are going through water, and this happens, there is potential for water to get sucked into the differential. There is also one in the front differential (for 4wd) but the actual breather valve is located higher up than the rear (from what I understand).

    Water doesn't mix with oil/lube...and there you have it... in a nutshell.

    Yeah that was a great episode!! Especially the end of the shawshank one when Cleveland finds the little box and starts reading the letter....(peter) " do u remember that small mexican town?" (cleveland)....."DAMN!!!":eek:

    Thanks I guess when I decide to change the fluid I should do this mod as I know the rear end is underwater about 4-5 times a year on the boat ramp. THANKS for the info.
