Composite bed durability

It's a marketing ploy. I don't trust any kind of test done by a manufacturer.

 

That ~1600 lbs mark is the highest I would go, which if I'm not mistaken is right about the hauling capacity for our trucks anyway. I couldn't fit much more anyway, the bed was completely full lol

 

Next time consider renting a U-Haul trailer for $19.

 

I agree, 1500 would be my max to not break anything. Better off making two trips if needed

 

Gas mileage isn't super bad on the Tundras they don't necessarily compare to the eco boost on the Fords, but the Tundra power plant is very nice.

 

Light weight, no rust, should be easy to repair damage...... for a daily driver, commuter, hunting, trail riding, camping pickup, it'll do little pig, it'll do.

I don't know 13mpg sucks. My buddy gets 19-20 city in his 2.7 ecoboost 2015. But I'm not about to buy a turbo based on longevity reasons. Will agree the tundra powertrain is solid but can't justify it for hauling around dirt bikes and the family.

 

I modified a piece of 3/4" exterior plywood to fit. Just in case I get crazy enough to have some yahoo load something in it from a loader.I would make sure the person loading has experience !!!

Honda did another test video using rough cut blocks and it fared well.

 

Lol. I'm sure it was because Ford and Chevy are the big two, however I don't look at sales numbers. They're always trying to one up each other. I'd like the tundra if the MPG was better and they did a redesign on the ballooned body panels.

I know this is an old thread, but this is the first true damage I've seen to one of these beds. This was sent to me by a family member who discovered this when he got his 2020 TRDOR rental vehicle. At least I can confirm that's not just plastic.

I know they aren't the greatest photos. Given that it was a rental vehicle, I'm not really surprised this happened. He didn't do it so I don't know the story behind it.

 

Quite honestly, this is the first time I've ever seen one of these even remotely fail. It had to have been quite an impact with something in the bed. Definitely doesn't look like it is from off roading or normal use. Then again, it was a rental truck...

 

I'd say that's the exception and not the rule above ^^^. As said, that's one helluva impact to do that damage. More of a case of negligence than normal wear & tear. Rental so...

 

Other than the fact, the factory didn’t tighten the bed bolts (among others) I have complete confidence in the bed material. I have hauled several loads of red oak, and I am too old to climb in and stack neatly, so I just throw them in. After I empty it, I hose it down and wipe it down. Still looks like the day I bought it

 

Our 2nd gen Tacoma beds have some serious mounting issues . There is a full write up explaining what you have to watch for .I dont beleive Toyota made improvements to the design in the 3rd gen .
