At over 150K miles I'd get springs too. 5100s and new stock springs will deliver a very nice ride with a bit more control and bump sensitivity over stock. See if you can have the front springs mounted to the shock before you bring them to the dealer. Toyota will charge you almost double to do this. Best of luck.

That's the first I've heard of that. That would not work out well for Toyota in the long run. That would would be some major damage to their reputation, that would take many, many years to recover from.

I know if my truck got CRC'd, and they told me there was no extended warranty on the frame (especially after all the frame rot pics I've seen), I would unload it immediately after, as I'm sure many others would. Which would negatively affect the overall resale value of all of our trucks. And as much as I love this truck, If I can't count on the frame to last 10 years, and then be told I'm on my own. I couldn't ever see myself buying another one because of that.

Is there a single person on this thread who's had issues with their CRC'd frame who's gotten any recourse from their Toyota dealer? I think all y'all who got the spray are screwed and there's nothing you can do about it except never buy a Tacoma ever again.

    Glad I could help.

If you end up getting springs as well, you should be able to borrow (they take a deposit) a spring compressor from the local auto parts store, and assemble the struts/springs. My dealer quoted me 2 hours labor to do this, @ $180 total. I took me maybe an hour to do both.

If you do go this route, you will need new top hats to complete the installation. I used these:

You sir, are "da man!" But you are hurting my wallet a little, but not complaining at all because I know in the long run the truck will be better off. LOL thanks again Fitz!

got the top hats ordered. For the springs, I found these ToyTec's for $170
http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/ToytecEibach-front-coil-lift-springs_p_14.html Are they for "stock" height too? It kind of read that way, I sent a question to the vendor.

No problem man. I'm just upholding the TacomaWorld prime directive. "To spend, while encouraging others to spend".

BTW, those springs will add 1.6" of lift up front. I don't know if that's what you want, but a lot of guys go with those springs for the lift. If you do go with those, leave the Bilsteins set to "0".

Yes, I would definitely keep the Bilsteins set to 0. I figured it may help the front rake a little with so many miles on it. If you think it would still make it set 'uneven', then maybe I should go back to the OEM springs.

I recognize that spending quote. I am also on a Camaro forum, and I love to help people spend too. It's more fun with it's other peoples money :)

It all depends on what your going for. @ 1.6" up front, the rear should be level with the front (you will be getting new rear springs with the frame swap). The normal factory rake is a 2" delta (difference) between front and back (rear is ~2" higher). Adding ~1.6" will keep the rear pretty much level, to a hair higher than the front.

Just for comparison, mine is on stock coils, with 5100's set to 1.75" (about 2" of lift in front). My rear was slightly low for my liking, and I ordered a set of 2" AAL's. This gave me an overall lift of ~2" on both front, and rear. So my factory rake is intact with the rear 2" higher than the front.

If you're thinking of lifting, I have to throw in the lift disclaimer:

It's pretty common to get the front differential vibration after lifting the front end on a Tacoma 4x4. The fix is to get a $60 ECGS bushing. Plus the cost of install, (if you have someone else do it). (Yes, more money).

This may influence your decision on which springs to get, or what height you want to go with.

@Fitz235 you beat me to it. Of course, once you've got the truck lifted more than 1" you'll want bigger tires to fill the gap. The money train just keeps on rolling. Trust me.

HankP save yourself the trouble and get OEM springs. The ride will be great.

That is the information I was looking for. I will not be lifting at any point down the road. I believe I would be happy with the slight raise in front rake with the Toytec coils, and Bilstein's set to "0". If the rake would have been more where I felt the back was 'lower' than the front, I don't think I would like that as much. Keeping it close to same height, or slight rake down in front is acceptable and sound like the direction I will go. Truck is my DD, and the 4x4 is mainly for getting around in the ugly winter months. (as we are expecting 5"+ of snow tonight). I run stock size tires and they do a great job for what I use my truck for. Perfect information Fitz to help me make a decision I feel good going forward with.

Cost for the OEM springs are really about the same as aftermarket. I keep seeing more people liking the OEM's with the 5100's.

Just left the dealer inspection. Said springs had already been upgraded.....BUT the frame has a hole and needs to be replaced....They're submitting to TMS, but doesn't see a problem getting the frame replaced. WAHOOOOO! (I just bought this taco from same dealer 1 month ago), before I found out about TW and this awesome forum that just saved me a massive headache and future repair $$$!! (The wife's also pleased :) ....even better!!)

Service says they've been getting 1-5 rusted tacos weekly and they have been replacing them at a 2 per week rate....Looks like summer before I see the new frame. Said will call as time gets closer. Service guy said they'd put on any parts that I purchased (within reason)no charge as the truck'll be apart anyhow.
    Excellent service to deal with!

Wow, I'd be suspicious of the dealer you bought the truck from. I don't understand why they didn't inspect it before it was put on the lot. The warranty enhancement has been around for a long time.
