I put Stabil in my fuel tank and ran the truck on a regular basis while the dealership had it.

Well worth the time and the few dollars.

More like in 3 to 6 months.

Nice, I'm jealous. They sent me to enterprise rent a car who put me in a Nissan Frontier ... it could be worse I guess.

SeNate got some good results with POR 15, despite the many bad reviews from others. Its all about the prep ... I am particularly interested in the Eastwood Frame Filler for the inside boxed areas.

    Nice tip.

    Just wondering.
I have a 2014 and I noticed some surface rust on the frame on the gap between the cab and bed. Is that something I need to be concerned about or no?

I just dropped my 2008 off at the dealer to get a new key made (yes, they have to have the truck for 1/2 a day to make a friggin' key). While they were checking me in they mentioned my truck was eligible for 2 recalls - frame rust and leaf springs. So they are going to look at the frame while making the key. I'm not too concerned as my frame looks like you could eat off it it's so clean.

When I asked about the leaf spring remedy (already knowing the answer because of TW) he just said "we're working on it". "Since 2014", I asked? He just smiled and said when they figure it out they'll let me know.

When I was looking at tacomas to buy last month I saw a lot of 2011's with tons of frame rust on them. I live in Washington state, and just about every Tacoma I came across (from a dealer) had been imported from Canada. the one I picked up was leased in Vancouver, so luckily not that much snow and the frame was pretty spotless. I have noticed some surface rust in a few places, but I quickly wired brushed it clean, then rustmort and finally por 15 it to death. I would think they are going to have many more problems in the future and I don't know how they can just make a 2016 cutoff date.

I had gone to Toyota of Wallingford in November . They told me it would be a few months before they could get to my taco . I was able to take it home till frame comes in . I then got a call in June that the frame came in and that im scheduled to have it done in July . I set a July 14 date . brought it in and they lent me a 15 camryse . Nice car for the lady in my life . 2 days and my truck was all set . changed out my shocks since they were offering no labor cost . Only cost of shocks no labor ( they were removing and reinstalling them any way) . They replaced frame , lower control arms , brake lines , gas lines , wiring harness and new leaf springs . feels like a new truck . Im satisfied with the work done with no cost to me ( other than new shocks ) , the good thing is my truck will now last another 10 years .

Glad that you are happy with there change and work.
I was also one of the ones that needed a new frame, leafs etc etc.
I am very happy with all of it ,except,i am already having noise comin from my left leafs.
It is very annoying, and from what i have read, lots of Tacomas have that problem, strange, before they changed the old ones,i never had that squeeky noise,,,sounds like an old rockin chair when i back into my drive way!!
They did my work in February,i wonder if that work and parts has some warrenty!?
    Regards
    Charly

Finally got the call that my truck will be ready either Thursday or Friday. Just shy of 6 months waiting. They got 6 frames and associated parts in 1 month. Now another unsettling feeling has descended on my psyche.........god I hope they get it right. I will update.

So my frame got approved for replacement but my advisor never said anything about any other parts being replaced. Is this something id need to bring up to him or is replacing lines and whatnot just part of the whole job? Just wanna make sure i know what SHOULD be replaced.

I called to schedule my inspection at my local dealer here in WA. She at first told me the recall had ended, then I read the letter to her and she said she would double check. She came back and said, "oh you're right, that was for the tundra that just ended."

Fellas, please forgive. Just found this. [Site has changed since last viz. Can't post sub-replies to specific posts anymore? Sorry if this is offtrack.]

Just read maybe 20 of the now 40 pages here and read conflicting info about inclusion of 2011's. One post said year models from "XXXX thru 2006"? Another said "all 2nd gens".

When did you guys receive letters about this? Was in rehab after skiing accident this past spring. Mail was forwarded to wife at daughters place. Could my letter have gotten tossed as junk mail? Some posts make it sound like qualifying is also based on severity of "perforations" found during inspection.

Short backstory here if anybody's interested.... Had seatbelt TSB done about 3 weeks ago. Service tech said they also did complimentary (post free 2yr maint (oil changes yay)) 130 point inspection. Was advised cabin air filt needed replacing. Fine yep thanks go ahead. Then last week I am doing the 30k spark plugs m'self and the oil. Hadn't rained in days. Hadn't washed her in weeks. But I'm getting down to drain oil and notice odd piddle of water on my cardboard mat. Crawling under on passenger side, then, drip, right down my cheek, then another drop every 4 secs or so, apparently from a seam in the frame. By the time I had the new filter in, it was down to maybe 30 secs between drips so I didn't get alarmed. By the time the plugs were done, the dripping had finally stopped.

NH mountains, sure, but at only 4 winters out and only 30k, and 2 short-lived, non-dealer, film undercoatings, something tells me I should probably not blow this off. Have to say the frame rust flaking I'm now noticing here and there, makes this all sound very discouraging.

Is it possible the dealer checked/tested but made judgement call that my low mileage 30k 2011 was not "perforated" enough?

Side notes: This '11 is my first Tacoma. Last year gave her a Leer and new summer wheels and tires. Was hoping to get at least 100k out of her and do a number of the great mods I've seen on here. Now it just sounds like any mods would be throwing good money after bad. Or, that planned obsolescence run amok just sucked me back into the damned trade-in cycle prematurely. Darned shame, this.

Take it in for a frame inspection. Theyll run your vin to check any open recalls. I ran my vin and found 5 open and took it in and they took care of most of them. Anybody have their rear leafs replaced?

I take mine in next week...It was in a couple months ago for a minor fender bender and they found the hole then filed the paperwork and never said anything to me, Just the other day I received a call saying "your new frame came in" that was a big shock!!

Now if only I could find a source for some bilstein 4600's... its going to be like a new truck when they are done, finally even letting them change my 200K mile clutch which is still not slipping. By the service managers reaction that must be a record or something.

My local dealer mentioned it, but at this time it's just a TSB with no fix/recall as of yet.
