Heated bed box?

Anyone have a solution to keep stuff warm in the bed? I’m looking to keep a few sets of ski boots warm in the bed when I drive up to the mountains. Thinking of maybe plugging a heating pad into the bed outlet and putting it in a large closed box with the boots.

Check the wattage on the heating pad - it'll probably be too much for the bed outlet.

While driving the plug only handed 100 watts. 400 when parked. That means you can only run a load of .8 amps while driving. That is a minuscule heater.

 

A 100 watt incandescent light bulb in a closed & insulated box would probably work quite nicely.

 

A "typical" pickup bed tool box and a 75 watt "incandescent" light bulb would work fine.

Since it's the season, a string of Christmas lights spreads the heat out and prevents hot spots that could melt plastic.

A box to fit a couple pairs of ski boots might be a bit pricey. I wouldn't be concerned about insulation, as long as the space was confined. Rubbermaid might have something in a tub with a top.
I keep my boots on the passenger side floor.

My wife uses string lights to keep plants warm in her spring time "cold frames" for growing plants

 

Get a nice expensive bed rack and buy one of those diesel heaters, mount it to the side of the bed rack and the route the heat into the bed. Problem solved.

 

Why not buy some heated socks?

This is a great idea, thanks! I already have a Rubbermaid tub with a lid so I will give this a shot.

 

a simpler solution is to set the hvac system to floor only, shove them in the passenger footwell, and crank the heat.

 

Just get as many 12v boot drivers as you need

ETA: oh, warm in the bed? Nevermind, they don’t put out enough heat for that

I'd rather just deal with 5 mins of chilly toes just to avoid all that...

Or just toss in some of those disposable hand/boot warmers. They'll keep things warm for hours.

Simple solution is to keep the boots inside the cab on the drive up.

 

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately I can’t keep the boots in the cab as we’ve got four people in there already. I’ll probably just try boot warmers to start but my try a project with the Rubbermaid tub and an incandescent bulb. It will be like a giant easy bake oven!

Knew guys during covid who would drive to the mountain with their ski boots on. Others opted for the one boot on one off approach. Not for me.
