Hi, excuse what might seem a dumb question please!

I took the 2011 Tacoma PreRunner V6 SR5 to JiffyLube and had my oil change. They offered the manufacturer recommended additional items which included Transfer Box oil change and Front and Rear Differential also.

Got home and I'm thinking, "Do I actually have a front AND rear diff?" because I don't think it is 4 Wheel Drive. Even in 2 wheel drive, can there be two diffs??

If I don't, I think I'll go back and ask where they put the oil they charged me for.

Chances are I'm wrong I guess, and there are two differentials on the pick up...

    Advice appreciated.

    Thank you :)

This! If you don’t have a 4wd switch then you don’t have a front diff.

Or a transfer case. You have a prerunner, you only have a rear differential.

Heck! So that says a lot about JiffyLube. After I get a refund I'll not be heading back there in a hurry.

PreRunner? and you are asking this? It may be time to sell it for a Prius... and a train set.

Well Paul, I'm a Paul also, but I'm a Brit, over in the US for work on a and not in car mechanics lol

I called my brother back in England (he is a mechanic) and he laughed at me. Like I laugh at him when he needs a PC problem fixed LOL

I got to GA 18 months back and of course was gonna get a car, then realised:

    1) I'm in the South, so I should get a pickup (even if a small one)

    2) I need to me down to the thrifts and spot any good bargain furniture to get me by while I work out if I'm staying here or not

So, yep, PreRunner was smiling at me at CarMax and it was mine.

JiffyLube and all those type places suck. Your experience is common from what I read on the web. I'd avoid buying a truck that had been to one of them. You can tell because they throw away the oil pan drain plug and replace it with a generic one that leaks. When I bought my Tacoma that's one of the things I checked.

A 2wd Pre-Runner has one differential, no transfer case and no front differential.

pre runner badge don’t mean crap really. I have seen taco’s say pre runner 4x4 also seen pre runner badges on 4wd and 4wd mud flaps and badges on pre runners.

Thanks for that - new Toyota drain cap will be got lol

I'm gonna look around between now and the next 5k miles, for somewhere more trustworthy. Same back in the UK mind... Lots of hidden camera exposé shows on TV letting people know how bad some places are. We call it "rip off Britain" but it's not just the UK, it's all over init!

Wouldn't your time be better spend digging up old posts on drum brakes and voicing your displeasure? Or taking a long walk off a short pier?

Jiffy Lube/any express oil change I try and avoid. Bunch of workers (mostly teenagers) who have little to no training in the industry. I suggest doing it yourself or taking it to a local garage to have all the service work performed. This isn't the first time Jiffy Lube has been caught ripping customers off. If you try and get a refund, be nice about it. No one wants to put up with a jerk who thinks they own the place!

Aye Zach, I'll be like, "I reckon she clicked a wrong button..." No need for me to get all high and mighty about it :)

And I just took a look under the car. Should have done before. Drive shaft clearly goes to back only and I see the "box" where the rear diff is. No link to front wheels and no diff between them.

No idea what a transfer box looks like but bowing to superior knowledge here from this well viewed forum!

So you are saying he might not have a real pre-runner got the correct service? Seems doubtful.

No. just saying looking at the badges does not always mean much.

It seams like he has a pre runner and they charged him for crap they did not do.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even change your rear diff fluid. Since they obviously didn't go under there and look.
