Passenger dash rattle

So i fixed it i took a pillar off put foam under the speaker part of dash, that fixed part of it then there is a tab for the dash that u can see when you open the door i put foam under it , it puts enough pressure on the dash that zero rattles happen..

Does the A-pillar just pop right off?

I just noticed this yesterday AM and didn't notice it on the way home, so good call on it being related to the cold weather. It was back at it even louder this AM. It's a significant rattle, man. I gotta mess around and fix this or it'll drive me nuts.

 

the A pillar has 2 bolts holding in on, just take the covers off unbolt and it comes off

 

I bought a roll of black felt tape from Amazon. I took off the passenger A pillar and put it on all the contact surfaces I can find, especially where the A pillar and speaker cover make contact. Seems to have worked. It was 32* this morning and there were no rattles driving into work. And I still have 49' of felt left for future rattles.

good chance that doesn't work, as it's a general fitment issue. unless they adjust something as well. honestly your best bet is to jam something in between as stated earlier in the thread. I shoved a folded lens cleaner from my sunglasses case in there because it's all I had handy at the moment. but it's down there permanently now because it worked!

Mine just started the annoying rattle (passenger's side dash) last week. It's warm here so not a cold weather issue. Usually it only occurs when you go over those "wake-up" lines they have before stop signs/lights, etc. My dealer has been great in that they have taken care of all issues I have inquired about such as window seal, transmission fluid, squeaking front bushing and implemented all the TSB's (transmission reflash, frame holes, etc.). The tech said he would try to fix it if we could duplicate the vibration/rattle. But, it is so inconsistent that I don't feel like making the 35 mile drive to let them have a go at it. Hopefully some of the suggestion in this thread will work...thanks!

P.S. My 12' Tundra did the same thing but only in cold weather.

 

My truck is brand new and i did it under warranty. The fix is a shorter speaker cover on the side, so it doesn't hit the A pillar. Now theres a small between the speaker cover and the A pillar. I will take a picture of it later and post it.

 

I had a rattle that I was sure was from the dash, maybe the speaker cover as others have mentioned. It was actually the headliner surround of the sun roof. With the sun roof open you can see tabs with industrial type locking velcro that were not pushed together. A firm press and you hear the lock with one another. No more rattle noise. At least it was simple. Despite that the truck is great, have no other complaints. If anyone has a squeaky driver seat that is a simple fix too.

 

My truck just started the same speaker/A pillar rattle this week as the temperature dropped. So this morning, when it was 50 degrees out, I blasted only wind shield defrost (no ac) at 74 degrees on my commute to work. As i drove I noticed the rattle wasn't there. I touched to see where the side windows defroster comes out in front of the speaker and both were nice and toasty. I think running your wind shield defrost at above 70 degrees is a temporary fix until you get the warranty fix. If this fix works for you, then you now know you won't have to take apart your dash, glove box, or pop your head into the sunroof.

 

I had a vibrating rattle from the glove box when off the pavement. Thunked the plastic shelves with my knuckles and it went away.

Second that. Spray silicone works great on plastic to plastic noises.

Got the dealer to fix mine. Of course it was warm the day of my appointment, but thankfully i took a video of it. Quiet now.

I found Tacoma World searching google for a fix to the same rattle issue everyone else is reporting. Despite my belief that the rattle was coming from the passenger speaker cover, it was actually the wire cover on the review mirror. I loosened the sliding cover l just a little bit and the sound has disappeared permenantly. Most of the riders who I asked to listen for the noise including a Toyota tech swore it was coming from the middle of the dash though I swore it was the speaker cover. Just wanted to throw that out as it solved my issue immediately.

 

Interesting suggestion. I'll take a look.

 

I have fixed the passenger speaker/pillar rattle with felt tape. But now I'm getting a new rattle seemingly from the center of my dash near the radio. Almost sounds like wires banging around but could easily be plastic on plastic. I have no idea what's under the center area of the dash. Before I get too crazy or over my head, anybody had the same rattle and fixed it? Only happens going over bumps or rough pavement.

 

I have the same thing. Only when it's cold though.
