Hello all, 1st time poster here.

My daughter was playing in my truck while I was cleaning it and up-ended my change purse over the shifter (I have an Automatic 2011 Tacoma). Some coins fell down inside of the shifter, under the cowling.

I shifted the truck through its gears, to ensure it moved smoothly . As I did, I heard coins rattling down, and then nothing. The shifter knob moves fine now, through all gears, and I can't hear no coins.

I have tried to find the diagram of the shifter, to see if there is a boot under this plastic and cowling that protects things from getting down into the linkage, but I cannot find anything. I would really hate to have to take out the console to get down to it and see. I would hate, even more, to have coins down in the linkage and my truck not be able to shift gears properly...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

unscrew the shifter nob, grab the center console piece and pull up, when it's up remove all the loose change.

yea that shift surrounding is easy to remove, I doubt any coins would go all the down in there to cause any type of tranny issues.

its an easy fix. The possibility of a coin falling into your transmission is very low. just like Large said, unscrew the shifter and pull up on the console. pull out change

IIRC, you don't even need to unscrew the shifter. I didn't when I pulled my center console...

    Fixed that for you.

Shifter is bolted to the floor and operates a cable.
Cable passes through a small hole in the floor and operates the trans lever.

There is no unsealed passageway from the shifter to the trans. Worst that could happen is a coin drops into the lever mechanism itself and jams the lever (with my luck, it would be in "R").

Honestly, the more pressing issue is that dude has a purse.
