Hey guys, I just picked up a 2015 TRD sport and after some research it sounds like Toyota got rid of the outside temperature monitors and direction on these years? My rearview has the direction on it so I'm guessing it's not stock but I can't figure out how to see the temp. Let me know what you think, if theirs a button I'm missing or something I need to wire in, I'll attach a picture below. Thanks in advance.

That may be just a compass mirror with Homelink.
I believe 13 was the last year that had the factory installed compass/temp/autodim rearview mirror, I put one in my 14 from Bob's Mirrors. It was plug and play except for running the temp sensor wires.

Sounds like that might be the way to go. How bad was it to run the temp sensor wires?

Not too bad, had to pull the A-Pillar cover and feed them through and then I ran them through the firewall next to the hood cable but if you have an automatic you can run them through the grommet where the clutch lines would go on a manual truck. Mounted the sensor to the grill with a self tapping screw.

I have an automatic. I think grommet the poster mentions above is the one I used to go through the firewall: you can see it just behind the brake booster at the top. I pulled it out and used a small awl to ream a hole in the center until the wire would feed through it. The hardest part is feeding the wire and finding where it pokes through up under the dash. It's a great mod/addition to the truck. I got it from Bob's Mirrors. (auto-dim with dual display compass and outside temp)

I ended up putting in a ScanGauge II, I've read a few places on here that their is an ambient temperature thermometer used by the AC. Found a couple of older x codes to program but neither of them worked, do you guys know if anyone has figured out a code that works to tap in to for ambient temp?

I had no idea 2013-15 didn't have ambient temp sensors.. That's honestly a big drawback in northern climates. Seems silly of Toyota to eliminate it on later trucks, especially when 2012 had it.

Read the thread @Dm93 linked above. Explains its not possible

Can't speak for the 14's but my 15 has temp on the HU but it's just pulled from the nearest town using the navigation, so not a true ambient temperature

That would make sense. Or maybe ODO. Old Dodge Charger I used to have was like that - ODO, Trip A, Temp

Hey how did you run the temp sensor wire? I have a 2009 that had the shitty compass temp up by the map lights and I upgraded the mirror to a 2013 with temp and compass but have never been able to get the temp to work

It's a mirror from an actual 13 Tacoma?

Correct, has the compass and temp readout in upper left corner. It’s not getting the signal from the sensor since the sensor was routed to the overhead console to the crappy one that fails. So I need either to run a whole new sensor or run a wire from my existing one to the mirror. I looked into it a few years back but just gave up

You can't use a sensor directly with that mirror, on the 09 Accessory Meter and the 2013 Mirror they got the temp signal on a serial data line from the A/C Amplifier and the A/C Amplifier was connected to the Ambient Temp Sensor so you can't just hook a temp sensor up directly to the mirror and have it work. Now whether or not the data signal would be the same between 09 and 13 I do not know.

To run a temp sensor directly you would need a mirror designed to do that.
