    Just got my containers in today.
    will slide them under the bed. Along with canopy, fishing gear, tripods and timelapse tracking dolley

    Edited to add:
    I added 1.5 inch shims under the support beams to gain enough height for the 9 inch tall plastic containers.
    Same wood left over from cutting the 2x6's

    All six will fit. Slide in the first four vertical, the last ones horizontal.
    Just went out and spaced them leaving the center area I will need for longer gear.

    Its a short. So not all six will fit under there.
    Could turn one side sideways.
    They just came as a 6 pack.
    The rest of my gear will go on top of the bed.

    I like that idea for a tailgate food/prep area, nice and smooth, and the cupholders are bonus! They put 13 cup holders in our trucks but none on the tailgate where they are most needed!

    Yes, but I used a piece of HDPE (like cutting board material). The stuff is kind of expensive so while I wanted a black piece, the local plastics place had a white piece off of a larger sheet that would work for a good price so that's what I went with. I measured it to fit, drilled my holes through it and the tailgate then countersunk the holes and added screws. I used some of that spray paint designed for plastics which has held up better than I expected but if I were to do it over I'd get some black dye and try that, or just leave it white. You don't need a very thick/heavy piece, just thick enough not to flex under the weight of your knees I figured, plus I didn’t want to lose any more bed length. In addition to being a much better surface for cooking or other small tasks, it is much nicer to sit on and it’s a lot easier on my aging knees when climbing in the back. I did not bother to cut holes for drinks/a stove/whatever those holes are for as my stoves are plenty stabile on a flat surface. The only thing I worry about is if my tailgate gets stuck again and I have to take the panel off to access the release rods (cheap-assed Toyota plastic clips on the release rods). I can use a stubby screwdriver like I did last time but it’s a PITA. On my last Tacoma I had a piece of plywood but the plastic cleans up easier and looks better.


    In my old Tacoma I tried the forward shelf and while it’s a great idea and works well, I prefer my head at the front of the bed for whatever reason. If you have two people you pretty much have to use a shelf or move everything out of the back.

    Thinking about a camper shell and building a platform. Is anyone using the C track to help hold up the platform? I am looking at a raised roof camper and would like the platform high to pack more gear under it. I was wondering if the track would be strong enough to hold the sides and front of the plywood and then have a center beam for support. I would like it to beable to hold two adults sleeping. Thanks
