I installed a curved 50" led light bar above my windshield a few weeks ago. Well not log after installing it my universal wiring harness melted. I was looking for a bigger and better wiring harness but haven't had any luck so far. Any recommendations?

Plenty to come... Still
What are the specifics of the harness you were supplied with? I would make my own with wire the same gauge as my light bar ran out to an auto relay you can pick up at AutoZone or the like. Thats how I run most any of my electronics I add to my truck

How did it melt? heat from too much current flowing throught the wire(s) or heat from the engine/bay area? i am suprized the fuse didn't pop if it was too much current for the wires designed to handle.

I prefer to make my own harnesses but if you don't want to go through the trouble... Rigid offers one. it isn't cheap and i would suggest swapping out the fuse holder with a water proof one.

if you make one, use no less than 12gauge wire.

Good idea here. And making one is pretty easy. I can link a thread I had a while back about wiring driving lights to a relay(same concept as I mentioned above) and its a pretty good walk through

I thought about making one but wasn't to sure how complicated it would be. The wiring harness they sent me was only 14 gauge and it melted everything except the wire running to my light. So pretty much just from the battery to the switch.

The more I think about it I think I'm gonna make my own. You said you had a video of how to do it?

I dont have a video, I can link a thread where people walked me though the process somewhat and I have a screen shot of a diagram on my old phone. Once I get off I'll charge it and try to make the post here. This is all relative so it won't be exact to your situation but it will give you a good idea how to tackle It. That and I can give you hand where you need it

you can wire a relay a couple different ways but i tend to put the fused power on pin 87 when i used a 5 pin relay. this keeps live power off of pin 87a when it's not used at all in the circuit. 4 pin relays you don't have to worry.

This is a link to my thread where I asked for some help wiring my driving lights and it includes some info on relays. it and what's posted above should be a good start. Hit me up if you need any help. Use a four prong relay and its simple wire running from there. I prong will go to direct 12v. One will go out to accessory power wire. One will be used to ground the relay. And the last prong will go out to your switch for your accessory. I always used a wire tap to on my 12v relay line and ran a wire of that to power my switch. I put fuses in my relay 12v power line but I dont think its all that neccessary(correct me if I'm wrong) but I think the relay is supposed to handle that safe guard
