Didn't want to clutter your FS thread but...

You could also include options for people who want to fit these mounts below the bed rails such as when they have a bed rack or tonneau cover

That should definitely be possible. Once I get some metal bent, I can play around with the holes :)eek:) to see how low I can get them.

As always, your input is greatly appreciated

Had the parts and finally got around to installing the HiLift Jack mount. Everything worked out as Benson X described.

    Parts

    HiLift-1_f84dbb93f3d21144c0c68dcb498b3ed0b13b0335.jpg

    First Install

    HiLift-2_aacdd76dd04e64ada541ff60d523723b2a1371a8.jpg

Looked at my mount and I have the extra large base plate and after drilling a hole in the plate and getting a slightly longer bolt I was able to put the plate in also.

    HiLift-3_9c378c5679194af259af4ed882b4ed29c85fbd14.jpg

Now for something that I have hesitated to put up. Here is how to not use a HiLift jack.:eek::eek: I wanted to change a tire n January as well as try out the HiLift jack for the first time. I had the plastic base plate on and it was in the garage. Put it on the skids and began to jack it up (I am old school and know how these older types of jacks work). Noticed my angle was not quite correct and let it back down and then readjusted inward. Got it almost all the way up and the plastic base slid out and pushed the jack into the door. Quickly got out the bottle jack (it was still suspended in the air) and jacked it up enough to get the HiLift out. Finished concrete is absolutely not a surface you want to use one of these on. Fortunately insurance company had no issue with fixing it and it only required the door skin (lucky it didn't break the window or damage the internals). Even more fortunately the game warden was out of town for another week and never found out about it.:p:p:p So a word to the wise, these jacks really require a lot of care when in use, they most certainly can damage things in a hurry.

If you want to use 1/2" bolts, these nuts from Grizzly fit our rails perfect. I bought them to use with 1/2" eye bolts. Of course they have other sizes too.
    G9514 T-SLOT NUTS (PACK OF 4)9/16 SLOT 1/2

Wanted to add that the thread is not tapped all the way through. You can tighten the bolt into the Tnut with no risk of over penetrating and damaging the rail/bed.

Thanks for the detailed write-up on these, Benson X.

I love these DIY threads. Not everybody's needs are the same, and I love seeing how everyone customizes their setup. I just finished my mount, so here it is:

I'm super happy with how everything fit together. I think this configuration maximizes the space on that side of the bed. I have 2 40mm ammo cans mounted above the bed compartments on either side, and the Hi-Lift fits perfectly in the space between that and the front of the bed. I also only wanted tools on one side of the bed, as I want to mount Jerry cans to the other side of the bed. So my solution was to do a Hi Lift mount and Quick Fists on the bracket. I then used the same type of plastic knob used to mount the Hi-Lift, but instead in a 1/4-20 thread, and screwed 2 Quick Fists to the Hi-Lift itself, and mounted the Shovel to that.

I used 2" wide steel bar instead of 1-1/2" because I wanted to use 2 bolts per bracket for extra sturdiness. Instead of the 9" total length originally specificied by Benson X for the Hi-Lift, or 9.5" for the tools, I went with a 10" total length, bent at 8". It turned out that the resulting 2" spacing allowed the base of the Hi-Lift to perfectly clear the "shelf" of the bed. It also was the perfect distance for the shovel to fit flush with the wheel well. Instead of a stack of washers, I just bent out the top of the brackets, which angled the whole setup.

The shovel covers up the head of the axe, which is a nice safety feature, and the entire setup fits below the bed sides, so you could probably use a tonneau cover with it, and you can also still use the bed cleats! I'm thoroughly pleased with myself on this one.
