crystal colorado-trail do able in winter?

    so i am wanting to get out to the crystal mill out near marble, colorado. i've only been there during the summer. does that area get a ton of snow, or is the trail still do able with good tires and 4x4?

    They get a ton of snow out there. I think you would be hard pressed to make that in the winter. Maybe someone more local to that area could provide a better answer?

    No, and I wouldn't try, plenty of spots where you could easily slide off a deadly cliff. Save it for the summer or better yet the fall.

    I don't remember any deadly cliffs, at least not down on the river road. Well maybe one, but it'd be more of a slow tumble... :D Up Lead King or Schofield, sure. Regardless the lower road (White River NF 314) is seasonal closure, closed 22 of November to 21 of May. There's a road status page at http://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/whiteriver/home/?cid=stelprdb5368472&width=full (Aspen/Sopris district) which is currently dead link I assume because there's no report at this time.

    Also note there's a fair bit of private property around there and limited camping opportunities given proximity to the river/terrain. And quotes around ghost is apt - looked like a regular old cabin resort when I was through there in the summer. Kids everywhere, most structures obviously occupied...
