Hi guys, im gonna have both front wheel bearings replaced on my 07 access cab v6 4x4 tacoma. Im going to get oem replacement parts and i was wondering if i have my mechanic buy the whole bearing assembly(s) pictured in my post instead of just the bearings alone will that make using a press to remove and reinstall the bearings unnecessary or is a press needed even when replacing these bearing/hub units in the pic? I think he will know what to do correctly but im wanting as much info as i can get b4 going to see him, thanks! Forrest

The bearing assembly shown still requires the pressing operation, which is necessary to transfer the hub assembly from the old bearing assy. to the new one.

Make sure you replace the inner and outer seal as well as the o-ring to prevent water ingestion.

While you're at it you should probably change the dust seal on the outer cv shaft and on the inner spindle.

i'm getting ready to replace my front right bearing, I already have the parts. I've been watching videos, some not Tacomas, and on one, they packed the bearing with grease.
Is that required for 2006 tacoma or is the bearing ready to go and be installed?

They supposedly are pre-greased and I've changed out 4 myself without adding any grease. But the last one I did a month or so ago I did add some more grease into the rear race of the bearing before putting it together. I will say it's WAY easier to buy a pre-assembled hub and install it. Basically all you have to do is change the inner seal and then bolt it all together. Last time around I bought a hub, bolts, seals and the bearing and pressed it all together with my shop press. Previously I had just bought bearings and seals and pressed the old hub out. It's certainly cheaper to do it this way but it takes a lot more time. So if you're paying to have it done it may be a wash. I used to take the whole spindle off the truck to have something to brace in the press to get the hub out. It's cast but it sure sketched me out every time I did it.

i just did both fronts on my last weekend. yor gonna wanna put some more grease in them they really dont have alot from the factory. the rear side of the bearing will come out of the hub before the spindle is pressed in. so just pop it out and pack it full of grease before you press the hub in. my taco is now running smooth and quite. i have a shop with a press it took me about 4 hours to do both sides taking my time and doing brake pads while i was in there.
