    Hi Tacoma Word members,

    my new tacoma: [IMG]

This is my second Toyota vehicle ( I had a 2003 Corolla le for 10 years). It is amazing having a V6. It is so powerful and responsive. I love driving the country roads up here. I would like to ask the following:

    1. What model trim is this? SR? SR5? ( It seems special with the black wheels and wing mirror indicator lights.)

    2. Can I upgrade the entune system to have the one with XM and rear backup camera?

    3. What mats should I buy? Toyota or after market?

    4. What is a good recommendation for a camper top?

    5. What are the best options for running boards?

    6. Should I add a steel grille over the front? Is this going to reduce performance due to added weight for example. What is the aesthetic trade off? I quite like the polished and clean look she has right now.

    7. Is the current suspension better for my use ( driving to and from mendo and SF, no real offroading ) or should I have gone with the TRD package? I drove both and I like this one more, it seems a bit less stiff and a more enjoyable rice while still maintaining that edgy aggressive bite. I really like the handling. OnlY had her for less than a week!

    8. Should I add the TRD supercharger? Does it void the Toyo warranty, how much does it cost with labour? Is the performance improvement marginal or significant?

    9. Any other mods other tacoma owners recommend?

    10. Should I change the headlights to HID or LED?

Hats off to Freeman Toyota! Kourtney even let me test drive the truck on my own!! Great experience, highly recommend them.

    PS" see photo below.

Sorry for so many questions but I am so curious and excited with my new tacoma@!!!:)))

    Welcome!

I'll take question #8. (TRD Supercharger)
IMO there is significant performance improvement. On road speed, especially off the line and off road torque for hill climbing. I was very happily surprised with the added power. One of the priciest mods available @ $5,500 OTD if your lucky. it does not void your manufacturers warranty.

I'll leave the rest of your questions for other members...
    Keep having fun!!

Not an SR5, unless it's an SR5 with a different grill surround. SR5 adds a chrome surround, and yours is color matched. I think this is in line with the SR, but I'm not really familiar with that model.

    Congrats and welcome!

That there is actually the SR package. Good choice OP, especially for future mods.

SR package comes with the color keyed bumpers, door handles, grill, mirrors, and turn signals in mirrors. Also comes with the gloss black Baja rims. It's perfect if you don't want to pay the couple thousand dollar difference for the TRD things that most people end up replacing with better mods I.E. suspension, stereo. It's only $40 more expensive than the SR5 package. For me, it was either get the SR 4x4 or get a TRD sport PreRunner for the same price. It was a no brainer.

Welcome to the Tacoma experience Rob!

Here's a couple of answer to your questions (IMO and experience)

    3. Weathertech's are the best! They really cover every corner of the floor and are long-lasting.

    5. There's a lot of options, some are cheaper but for what I can say they are all decent quality. (check Amazon)

    6. Performance will NOT be affected, this is purely aesthetics, or do you mean a bull-bar? If yes, then it depends on which one you choose as there is diferent sizes.

    7. Unless you are planning to off-road (and you truck is not a 4x4 for what I can see) you're fine with what you currently have.

    8. If you have the cash: YES! it will cost you around 6k and won't void the warranty (as long as you do it with a Toyota dealer).

    9. There's hundreds of mods to be made for the Tacoma, what do you like? I would say it al depends on your taste, but I do think everyone should change their interior lights to LEDs.

    10. Just don't change the fog lights to either HID or LED as this will not help during a "foggy situation"

Not true. He didn't ask what size tires he can fit with a 3" lift.

The search button is your friend. I typically use Google, and add "Tacoma World" to what I am searching for to find answers to my questions. Check out the thread "What have you done to your Tacoma today?" It is a good source for what people are doing to their trucks. I have gotten quite a few ideas from that thread.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/6499-what-have-you-done-your-tacoma-today.html

Also, if you see a picture of a truck you like then check to see if they have a build thread. Just spend some time exploring before you buy. There are often many options available and a lot of been there done that advice to take advantage of.

    Good luck.

You brought it without knowing what trim package brother? It should be on your paper no? Anyways I brought my taco also at Fremont Toyota down in Fremont CA when I was still living there. Great price if you can negotiate. They are slow but service is better than any other dealer.

Start browsing this site bro. TONS of information for mods and technical stuff.

Thanks everyone, your information has been invaluable. I also wanted to ask if RED LED's are cool for the cabin lights. I have them now and it looks like a submarine in there lol.

What color LED should I replace the main cabin light with. Is it weird I have 2 red LED and the original one the same?? Thanks again.
