Question for Wiring the Pop & Lock PL8521

I just purchased the PL8521 tailgate lock for my 2014 Tacoma -- double cab.

Between the written instructions and online postings from others that have installed the product, I've seen two techniques for wiring:

    1. Route up under the driver's side all the way forward to the engine firewall and into the cabin (specified in the Pop & Lock instructions).

    2. Route up under the driver's side through a floor grommet into the cab.

Does anyone see a problem with the floor access vs. the engine fire wall? Personally, I would prefer avoiding going all the way forward to the engine unless there is a specific reason to avoid coming up through the floor. I will have to feed the wire back to the door panel regardless, so the longer path through the engine seems unnecessary.

    Opinions?

I just installed one the other day. I ran up the passenger side and went in through the grommet under the front passenger seat. It's then hooked into the passenger side door locks so you only unlock the tailgate when you unlock the passenger locks.

Note sure what threads you followed but I used the following one:

I drilled a hole in the grommet that was slightly smaller than the diameter of the wire I was running. This made a good seal in the grommet. You can always add a little RTV to be extra sure but it won't be needed with the way I did it.

THANK GOD for this write up. I found another that uses barrel bolts and twin actuators and went that route but his electrical detail was SEVERELY lacking. I ended up blowing up both actuators. Oops. $10 and 3days later I found this thread, I replaced the actuators, REROUTED to the passenger side and BAM!!!
    Once and done.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
