I have a terrible time getting in my 2011 Access cab due its low roof line and my arthritis. Does anybody know if the OEM style running boards will help?

My OEM running boards are useless as far as getting into the truck for adults. They sit too high up to use as a step. They are primarily paint protection from door dings in my opinion. I would look into N-fab or something similar which have prominent steps welded on.

    +1 on Black Taco's experience.

I have the factory running boards on my DCLB and never use them when getting into my truck.

I have a set of stainless 3" nerf bars(2 wks old), that I took off because they didn't mount high enough for me "looks wise", but they were at the right height to use as steps....

Most running boards and tube steps are going to sit too high and too close to the truck to be useful as a step to get into the truck. I wanted mine to hang lower and stick further out. I finally went with the Go Rhino 5" Extreme oval tube steps. I highly recommend them if you want something that can actually function as a step. Below is a link to a review thread on these.

As everybody has been saying the OEM Running boards are much to high. My Taco is outfitted with them for the kids. They have no problem getting in with them.

Here is a good pic showing how high they are:

I'm actually thinking of taking mine off. They're high enough that they're just not useable, and I just end up getting my pants leg dirty stepping over them.

My oem running boards are good for protecting the truck from rocks being thrown, only real function for me.

Look into "AMP RESEARCH" electric running boards.Expensive but something i might consider if i choose to add them to my truck someday.

Looks like I have what Judgeman has, I think they are Luverne 3" chrome with black step pads. They are pretty good for steps, relatively inexpensive and good looking (I think, at least). I don't think I will be keeping them too long because I want sliders and don't really need the steps, but those are an option. They seem low enough to me...everybody who gets into my truck uses them as far as I know including myself.

No. I got running boards on my 15 cause I destroyed the edge of the seat sliding out on my 09. They too close to truck to do any good and haven't used them once. Got some Marathin seat covers to protect the seats and will sell boards.

Pretty similar experience to most of the previous posts, I have the OEM tube steps and they're pretty worthless for steps, I keep them only for aesthetics. They are only useful when washing the truck, I can stand them to wash the top of the cab.

The previous owner of my truck had put some Dee-Zee nerf bars on in:
    http://www.deezee.com/products/43/N...Side_Steps/3-_Round_UltraBlack_Nerf_Bars.html

They're alright, I'll just them to stand on when cleaning the windsheild or roof off, but other than that I don't use them. Handy for people (thinking of a particular co-worker) who get angry when you park within 3 feet of their car and will ding your door. He's tried a few times now and has only hurt his own brand new car.

My mom & sister & fiancee & mother-in-law-to-be use them almost everytime they get in the truck though.
