When I changed the oil and filter in my 06 V6, I couldn't help thinking that the filter looks very small. On other vehicles that I have had, there were different filters that would fit but be physically bigger.
A point of reference is my 05 Dodge 4.7l V8: a filter for a Ford 302 fits and is about twice as big.
Do any of you guys know if there is a bigger filter that I can put on my engine?

BTW - I did a search and didn't find anything.

Keep in mind your oil is pumped through the filter at a specific rate, putting a larger filter on may reduce overall oil PX as it's delivered throughout the engine. Starved bearings is a potential issue.

once the oil filter is filled it doesnt matter.

FYI there are 2 lengths of oil filters that are commonly used on our trucks. the "D3" filters are the longer of the two... the shorter ones "D1" are used on the I4's but can be used on the v6's

I personally like to use the D3. A bigger filter has more filtering media.

its what comes stock on the v6 (the d3)

Lots of dealers cheap out and only stock the D1 and use it on both the i4 and v6.

Don't assume the larger filter has more media. On this forum a member has taken apart plenty of filters

Thanks for the replies. I guess the one I bought is a p1. It's smaller than the one I took off.

NAPA / Wix #1516. I haven't taken the time to actually cut one open, but when you look inside you can see the filter media goes all the way through.

Wix manufactures both of these filters. NAPA # is 1516.
    Wix # is 51516.

It's not the size of the boat. The quality of the media is more important.
I've always used Toyota OEM filters. Besides if I buy four they give me the fifth and crush washers free:thumbsup:
