    ...Crickets...

Well, since the course/standards are probably the same throughout the AF, can anyone who has qualified with the M9 in the AF chime in? SF people? What does it take to qualify expert?

This is probably the last thing to worry about for field training. I can't remember the specifics, but you have to have x amount of 'hits and y amount of them be head shots. You'll do a bunch of different firing positions and told to target certain things for each one etc.

I realize its not important, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to make expert. There's also a little bit of "living up to my dad" involved. He did it when he was a midshipman.

10" circle for body, 6" circle for headshots. Sound about right?

If memory serves, you get 48 shots and 30 have to be on the body and 15 in the head. Or something close to that? I never shot a pistol in my life and I have qualified. Just know your basic marksmanship techniques, take your time, and don't point your gun anywhere but down range! They take that pretty seriously

I went... in 1980! :annoyed: From what little I remember it wasn't all that difficult.

I did it 12 years ago... Shooting was just to get you exposed to the weapon not really a go/no-go thing. The stuff that mattered was all the other crap, Marching/PT/Games/O courses/eating a meal in under 8 minutes etc. Honestly it was kind of a joke... and a bit embarrassing at times, like when we played AF ultimate frisbee in front of the folks going through BMT (I even heard the DI's cracking jokes about us to there BMTs). I think i ended up being graded in the bottom of the Middle third... in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean much!
