I am looking to get a set of snow tires for the rear of my taco, any suggestions or first hand experiences with snow tires...

Blizzaks are awesome, i've also ran studded Cooper weathermasters on a '87 Toyota Pickup with good results (added approximately 100lbs in the bed) ran 2 wheel drive all winter except when off road.

    That's a recipe for disaster

Not studding them is another recipe for disaster.

Yeah I have changed my mind...I am looking for a whole set. I watched a little comparison video and that was enough to push me in the right direction..

Good. It kinda defeats the purpose if you don't put them on all the way around. As for the studs, my friend used to run winter tires without studs... figured she'd save the $60 on having them studded, they were 'winter tires' right? That was until she hit a patch of black ice and totaled her car. Most places won't stud them after they've been run on the road either, because the holes will fill with gravel, so if you're going to get studdable tires, get them with the studs.

    Hey,
I will be going into my 3rd season with a pair of Firestone Winterforce radials on the REAR of my Taco. Last year I put them on in December and ran until the end of March. They are awesome in the snow, with a little weight in the back. Never a problem with the OE tires in the front, but I also drive a 2wd truck in New England, I am not afraid of the snow.

I bought an extra pair of the 5 spoke 15" wheels as take offs from a guy on e-bay. I now have 7 matching wheels, and the one oddball spare.

    Good luck.

i have the firestone winterforce tires, complete set, and rarely had to use 4wd last winter. never had any weight in the bed besides a few bags of tools.

i do a lot of hwy driving with some deep snow driving down back roads/country roads.

i would recommend the winterforce tires any day :) (great tire, great price)

BFGoodrich All Terrain KO. I use these year round for on/off road, and they are GREAT in the snow. BTW, when it snows a lot, I go out for a nice long drive. I love it. I carry tow straps and make some extra cash sometimes pulling out stuck cars.....;)

If you look around craiglist, there are always affordable sets up my way for so many buy backs, honestly you just do not see many 1GENs up here anymore....:(

    Like AK27 recommended...another vote for....
....Firestone Winterforce is what I ran on my tacoma last year (Hoosiertaco posted a thread which specifically swayed me to ditch my snow-rated ATs).
I studded mine for I travel alot up to the mountain to ski and ride, absolutely no abs kick in :woot: Maybe not such a big deal for ya in NJ :notsure:
The entire set studded and shipped to my door was under $400 from tirerack.

I loved my blizzaks last year. My 2wd 5spd base taco felt in control in the snow with these. I know I'm in Kansas but in the rural areas the snow is bad. These restored confidence after losing it with all seasons my first year. With some sand in back you should do just fine
