Trying to see what it would look like if it had a smaller grill...I am not too great in photoshop, maybe someone with better skills can make it look better than my first attempt.

If ya squint at it, it kinda looks like a 1st Gen Tundra grill, ha!

This would have been much better.

I think the 2016 is really nice and a great improvement, except for the grill and headlights. As it is, the 2015 looks better. By the time I'm in the market again, I suspect the Tacoma will have had another facelift. Hopefully a better looking one by then.

I would replace my 04 Tundra with an identical one in a minute if a new one was available. Even better the same truck only 6 speed manual, the new 3.5 engine, and a more modern electronics. Keep the lever operated 4wd too.

I bet a lot of people may sway their opinions once the '16 is out for awhile and we start to see Taco's with Mods and changed out or painted grills etc.
For me, I am really hoping to like the new engine, and refined nicer dash.
I really liked the pre '15 F-150's, not really liking the look on the new '15 F150, then see one last week with Mod's and it looked sharp! so there we evolve. :)

I was hoping for a Gen1 Tundra clone with an updated motor and the sweet composite bed. The composite bed is about 400 lbs less than the steel bed on the GenI Tundra. I was hoping the new Tacoma would have 49 inches between the wheelewells.

It's just not all that difficult to do, a 49" wide bed. Have to widen the body by two inches on each side, not all that big of a deal.

Because I shouldnt have to mod my truck to just like the way it looks. My stock 15 is just as gorgeous as my 11' lifted was. I could stare at her for days. Wish I could say the same for the 16's.

Yes, wonder where the OP got his polling information to make the statement "most" are disappointed.

I would say its 50/50, but your always gonna have guys who love the 1st gen over 2nd gen or 2nd gen over 3rd gen etc. Most of the commenters on this thread and others in this section, the 3rd Gen section, like the truck and want to know more. Most guys who think its ugly and are "disappointed" dont bother posting in here.

I like the refresh overall but , I'm disappointed that it still has drum brakes.

I personally would don't want a diesel in this size of a truck. I like the the new truck, especially what I have seen for the interior. That said, proof will be in able to test drive one.

Throwing my 2 cents in. From a rational point of view, the Gen 3 Tacoma looks like a winner. Toyota stepped up and provided their most modern 3.5 V-6 along with a modified lighter (more high strength steel) and hopefully stronger frame. Toyota is also providing new features that I always felt should have been included in the 2012 refresh (locking glove box, locking tail gate, HID projector head lights, updated key fob). Also I give Toyota major credit for still offering the Tacoma V-6 with a proper 6 speed manual.

Why am I disappointed? From a subjective (very vain) point of view I just think Toyota messed up the exterior design, it looks like they started off trying to make it look like a baby Tundra (which I'm not a fan of '14+). Then they threw in random non cohesive design elements including the old Mitsubishi Raider tail lights. I'm hoping in 6-7 years when Toyota does a Gen 3 refresh they improve on it. Some might consider it unrealistic expectations, but I'm also disappointed there will be no diesel offered.

This sums my feelings up 100%. It looks like it was rushed, if you look at other redesigns from Toyota the lines are cohesive and flow even if the design is ugly. The new truck is so random, its almost exactly the same 2nd gen cab, with rehashed body panels for the front and rear with fender flares that dont look right at all that terminate randomly. The front end is just hard to look at a giant oversized grill that with the hood popped has a huge gap between the radiator and grille with tiny little headlights (though I love the projectors). The worst part I know I know is supposedly for safety standards but that underbite, what is that? The vinyl overlay between the windows looks tacky. I dont know, the tailgate looks great at least and I like the new wheels. Im just saying it looks like alot of random design ideas all thrown together for a very unattractive vehicle. I will say the interior whoever did that did a great job, very cohesive and looks really nice. I hope the mid cycle refresh they work on some things. Then I may consider trading.

How can there be a mid cycle refresh if the 2016 is still the 2nd generation. Just sayin.

6-7 years is a long gawd damn wait, Hell, I am not getting any younger...at this rate, I would assume the design will just get worse...

Pretty sure if you want exactly what you want you're gonna have to build it yourself...like the '12-'15 exterior design, and diesel? buy one from those years and drop it off at Diesel Toyz for an engine swap.

I dunno, nothing on today's market or the near future's appeals to me, seems like the manufactures get kinda close, but miss a few key elements for my needs and desires. Nothing out there that makes me go "oooo, I want that!" and willing to lay down my cash...

    +1

The 3.5 is a neat motor. But, I was hoping for MUCH better fuel efficiency and a diesel option - give us a fracking updated D4D! No dice - FAIL by Toyota. Period.

I saw the 2016 in person at Overland Expo. Suspension looks exactly the same. No noticeable improvements in suspension travel or 4WD system - the rear (which REALLY could benefit from better geometry and strength) appears unchanged. Frame, at a glance, seems unchanged - fracking front cab mount is still in a shitty location for 35's. Same low hanging exhaust crossover pipe. Cab looks like my 2005 with a giant center cluster and meh looking interior. Sheet metal (front clip and bedsides/tailgate) look like they were thrown on to disguise the real vehicle - the lines just don't flow for me. Nothing there to entice me at all.

Flash back to 2005 - I was in LOVE with the 2nd gen redesign. Gen 3 has me all... meh.
