I'm a broke and starving college student and need to do it as cheap as possible. Plus I like to learn.

There definitely will be a learning curve with me never having done a clutch, but I am fairly handy with a wrench. Hoping to knock it out in a day.

I might not be scheduled to heckle anyone this weekend. I'll check and see.

Clutch isn't bad. The worst part is getting the top bell housing bolt and the harness all unplugged and plugged back in that's on top of the tranny.

Of you go through the shifter hole from in the cab with extensions then getting that top fly wheel bolt isn't bad. I think I have photos of it when I did mine I'll look. Was my first clutch job and wasn't bad. But I had a lift too.

Also resurface your flywheel while its out too.

I didn't do my real main seal. Jace kept that info to himself when I did mine :luvya: haha but barely 115k on the truck when I did mine.

How much of a job is it to replace the rear seal? Any special tools required?
Is it simple enough that the success rate is high?

I'm sure you were talking to the young one but I may be heckling him that day, is it really necessary to separate the exhaust?

It may be easier to replace it as he needs it done in a day...I'm not sure where he can get it done quickly on a weekend. But I agree, it needs a smooth surface to start.

I was but posted for all haha

I can't totally remember why I did that..I think it just made it much easier to get to a few of the bellhousing bolts. And was easy to take off so I did.

Sadly I did this before I really did the write up style of working on Frank so I don't have near the details Id like now :(

4 hours to re-surface it? or 4 hours total for the whole clutch replacement?

no took like 6 hours to do the clutch. maybe it was an hour or hour and half. We literally called them, dropped it off. Ate lunch. I helped Tim work on one of his cars and then we went and got it. sorry. Was a while ago and i don't remember it super well... but shouldn't take long. easily within the day you are doing it.

im sorry! You didn't ask! but yeas always a good idea. I actually removed my seal holder and resealed it to the block/oil pan while I was in there....

not bad. flat screw driver pops the seal out after you remove the flywheel. Like Monte said, definitely get the FW resurfaced. Clean the seal holder surface and crank shaft seal surface up with a little scotch brite and brake clean, wipe clean with rag. then throw a little lube or oil on the inside of the seal and slide it on. tap it in slowly and evenly with a hammer (and a 3/8" 3" extension works great) go til its flush with the seal holder. done:)

Lots going on in here, trying to wrap my head around everything.

Trying to get all my ducks in a row to knock this job out quickly. Found somewhere fairly close that will resurface a flywheel in an hour or two on a Saturday. Also might pick up a cheap flywheel to have around just in case.

May I also suggest second clean pair of gloves for the install so not to contaminate said flywheel after its resurfaced.
