The mounts above your post that Jake has from cali raised led MIGHT work. His is a straight bar though. $150. It's for a 40" as well I believe. But I don't think anyone makes mounts specifically for a 42". I think there's a few for 50" as that's the more popular length and choice of 2nd genners. But if you or a friend has the capability, I suggest making your own. Not too hard. Just takes some patience and determination to figure out all the angles and whatnot. Fabbed my own up with nothing but a grinder, cutting disc, and my bro welded them for me.

Yes mine top bar is for a 40" not sure if they will fit in the 40 radius. But again I don't know anyone who sells brackets for a 2nd gen Tacoma for the 40 raduis. The company I work for ( CaliRaisedLed ) any we sell brackets for 2nd gen Tacoma for a 40" straight , 50 straight, and 50 curved. All for $150 powder coated, low profile brackets. If anyone has any question feel free to text me 714-604-6426

    alright boys..

    teach me/give opinions/bash/etc on 4D optics...

been seeing these Osram 4D optic bars.. from what I have seen.. they are hyper spots essentially..

I do like the pattern of my 50" spot radius bar.. I feel like it has more usable light.. especially since im not bombing through the desert. jut at a medium pace with the MT. lol. but I cant help to be intrigued...

Idk man. I was untirgued and excited when I saw their lumens ratings. But after I saw a couple output shots, I wasn't interested anymore. They might be good for when you have other smaller flood lights and NEED the extra distance. Because that's what they appear to be. I'm sure they throw really far. But I love the spread I have. I do wishI had more distance straight down the road, but I'm not gonna give up my setup for that. I got some led cannons to help with that.

I think if you were to get the osram for a roof bar, you'd have to get some kind of other smaller aux lights for some flood. those osrams are literally like a 10 degree spot pattern. Whereas regular bars that claim 10*, you actually get quite a bit of spill light too. Those 4d optics could've been utilized better I think.

On a side note, I met someone with a totally different reflector design that I've never seen before. It has huge reflectors, and a tiny tiny little projector lens over the led. Probably twice the size of the led itself. Imbedded in the reflector. And no I'm not talking about the little bubble over the led. It sets in the middle of the reflector. Hard to explain. He said he got it on eBay. But I couldn't find it at all. Tried getting him to shoot me the link but no response:(

But I was really intrigued by that design and it had a sweet spread. I'm hoping to go wheeling with him one night so I'll report back on that.

    I agree with you..

like i said i love the spread on my bar. (OKLED 50" radius in spot). its a solid mix of usable light. I will be adding amber D2's on the hood for dust down the road, so no spot for auxiliary lighting to fill and make up for the hyper spot of 4D optics.

well, that makes that decision easier then. lol

My setup: Running a 50'' radius up top, two spot pods and a 30'' in the bumper. All made by toughlight. and I've got 8500K hids in the fogs and headlights. Thinking of doing OKLED's rocklights some day soon.

Beautiful shot man!!! I found standing in the bed is a really good spot to shoot from as well:)
I'd be interested in seeing some 'long-shots' from far behind the vehicle at a slightly higher vantage point.

Also.. I've been considering/contemplating getting a go pro to take some vids from time to time. Anyone have any experiences/videos theyd like to share? Specifically taking videos at night showcasing lights. I'm not quite ready to drop the $ on a nice gopro, as I can't really afford one atm but... I'd like to see some vids if anyones got some. Curios about the quality and how well they capture light output at night. As I've found and am sure others would all agree, that videos don't do lights justice AT ALL! Even pictures are freaking hard to take and capture the true output perceived first person. Unless you've got a crazy dslr...I might be willing to purchase a used one from a friend, if I can find someone with one thats willing to part with it at a reasonable price.. OR I've also seen some GoPro 'clones' for sell on Amazon for much cheaper with really good reviews..

Anyways, I decided to take a vid the other night (on a quite enjoyable drive home after a flash flood I might add) using my phone. Which is supposed to be 1920x1080. compressed for youtube.. The best I could come up with after adjusting the (limited) settings and contrast.. Sorry I didnt flip the lights on and off more often, was too busy driving and holding the phone up at the same time, lol.

    http://youtu.be/Thx9Knqgp84

Let me know your thoughts. Regarding GoPro's night capabilities that is. As well as the cheaper clones I see available:)

Save and get a gopro. There's a reason they are priced the way they are. I still have a Hero2.. (a couple models old) and it's still fantastic. Paired with the WiFi backpack and the gopro app.. I can view the camera from my phone while in the truck hitting the trails.. Switch from video to photo.. turn it on, off, stop, play, take pictures, etc all from my phone. It has been hit with paintball while mounted to my paintball gun, Received it's own pinstripes from wheeling trips.. and only ONCE fell off the windshield using the suction mount.. but that was my fault.. And even then as i watched it tumble down the windshield, onto the hood, and rolled down the trail.. The camera kept recording and made for a good video. :) I have used it numerous times with the suction mount. It's crazy strong.

If you can find a used one.. Or even just get the Hero2.. you'll save some money and still get an awesome camera that will last for years. I've had mine for 2 or 3 years now.

I'm also a little biased.. because we design and build prototypes of their packaging..

Thanks man that was a stock photo I had in my phone. One of these nights, I'm going to tripod my 7D on the roof and actually set the shot up in camera instead of crappy unjust iphone quality just to get an appreciation of how bright they really are. I'll post something soon.

Here's just the 4D bar. There is SOME light scatter, but nowhere near enough like a good quality combo bar. it's mostly for distance. It suits my needs since I have a good amount of flood light

This is everything minus the 40" bar. I have a pretty decent amount of forward light with my 20" bar, and you can see that in the middle7ee2faf8bb3dafefe392f68786c4036a_2bdf8deb75e14d44e4c025b74a2935faf468696f.jpg

Like I said, this suits my needs, I have a pretty good combination of spread and distance for me. if I could see what a 20"4D bar and a 50" radius combo would do, then I might go that route. But for now I'm happy. I hope this helps other people with questions. If you guys want more pictures, I can certainly take more.

Some awesome shots man! Yeah that thing throws FAR! Kinda what I expected.. And I agree I think a 20"4D would be better with a regular combo roof bar. I've posted a far away shot showing my spread somewhere in here. I'll post it again and compare it to yours when I get a chance. To show the distance. Your 4D shines probly twice as far as mine, but I have an amazing spread that I'm happy with. Fit some 4.5" cannons to help with more distance.
