I am replacing the front wheel bearing on my 2006 4x4 4.0 DCLB, I have the bearings, looked at 3 different DIY's checked my tool box for all the necessary tools, IM READY TO DO A BEARING!!!

until I came accross a toque diagram that illustrated something of concern. ALL DIY videos write up do not specify placement of the O-ring. One video that I have seen shows the mechanic placing the O ring on the bearing assembly BEFORE mounting it to the knuckle. This is where I must ask you to shift your attention to the following figures. Figure 1 clearly shows placement of the O ring BETWEEN the knuckle and dust shield. HOWEVER, the written description in the shop manual (figure 2) would SUGGEST that the O ring goes between the dust shield and bearing.Capture.jpg

Figure 2. write up suggesting placement of O ring between bearing and dust shield

All DIY's would suggest placing the O ring between the bearing and dust shield however none actually show this.

If anyone could shed some light on this it would much appreciates.

I think you'll find that the hole through the dust shield is larger than the o-ring OD, and therefore it doesn't make any difference. Pull yours apart, it should be clear with the parts in front of you. I haven't actually had to do a front bearing on my truck, so could be wrong, but in any case, put the o-ring where it was, and where there is a recess or chamfer for it to fit into.
