Plasti-dip sucks! Glad you aren't going to be a derp

I'd rattle can it, then if you don't like it take it to get professionally done

Thats what I am probably going to do. Rattle can the best I can do and if I dont like it I'll get a shop to do it down the road.

    Same here.

Do you know what to do in regards to sanding? Go to bare metal or just scuff the old and add primer to that?

might already know this but just throwing it out there.. make sure you take your hood off and hang it vertically when painting it.

Thanks. Yeah I figured I would never be able to get the spray uniform if I left the hood on. That and I would have to mask everything and would still probably make a mess.

So I went with the crowd and re-redded it. Used about 4 small cans of colour (Dupli-color Perfect Match) and 2 big cans of clear. Probably didnt need that much colour but I had it so meh

Looks pretty decent now, but I will have to see it in the sun and next to the fenders.

You will definitely want to wet sand and buff that. You will have lots of orange peel in the sun.

I will tomorrow when I put the hood back on the truck. I am not super concerned about it looking perfect but I figured i would need to do a bit of wet sanding.

A few years back I smashed the right front fender in a snowstorm on a guardrail and it looked pretty shitty. Paint was flaking, it was all dented & wrinkled and nothing lined up right with the lights.
Since I was so happy with how the hood came out I decided to order a new fender and paint it too. It actually came out better than the hood!

I'm actually going to color match my grille within the next week, what grit sandpaper did you use? And what grit do you wet sand with?

    @TashcomerTexas
To scuff I used 400, which is just what I had laying around. I think most interwebz experts call for 320.
Wet sanding I used 1500 then 2000 followed by a buffer with a compound that said it removed scratches up to 1500 grit.

The grille is a bit different because it is plastic so you need to start with an adhesion promoter or nothing will stick.
So clean, scuff, clean, adhesion promoter, primer, color, clear, wetsand, buff. I followed the times on the can for drying between coats. They were all basically 10 mins between coats and 30 mins between types. (ie primer, 10 mins, primer, 10 mins, primer, 30 mins, color, 10 mins, color, 10 mins, etc)

I guess self etch primer would work in that case, so after I've put the last coat of clear I wet sand it with 1500?

I've never used self etch before, just read the can to be sure it works on plastics.
I waited two days to let everything harden a bit then wet sanded.

When I did the fender I laid the clear on pretty heavy for the last couple coats. It significantly reduced the amount of orange peel I had to wet sand but it risked causing runs.

And make sure you use color and clear that match. The dulpicolor perfect match paint is acrylic enamel so get a clear coat that is also acrylic enamel.
