I just did and found this

I've been waiting for a resolution on the recall but after seeing this, I 'm going to the dealer tomorrow. Never a BANG or CLUNK, just some squeaking occasionally.

Here's what the right side looks like.

I had one of the middle leafs break a few months age, and noticed that the same leaf on the other side was replaced by the previous owner.

If you look at Toyota's advance letters, they say if you find a broken leaf now, take it to the dealer to get the leaf pack replaced free of charge. The replacement leaf pack has an extra clip, which Toyota has been installing in production since Oct 2010.

It chafed some of the plastic but still looks like it is OK. I just had to replace the lines last fall because they were too rusted to pass state inspection. (Toyota didn't replace them with the frame)

I did see that in my recall letter and that is why I am taking it to them tomorrow. I literally just noticed it a few hours ago.

I wanted to remind others to get under there to check because mine was broken without a loud CLUNK or BANG like they say in the letter (and what I would have expected).

^This. Comparing against mine, the brake line got signficantly bent by the leaf. Ask for the line to be replaced, as collateral damage.

Thanks, good point. I'll make sure I bring that up. (I would imagine that the spring is covered since they have sent me safety recall notice letters.)

I had a very similar situation. Two separate occasions. After replacing the rear leaf packs by myself twice with OEM stuff,.. I bought Dakars. If you're using your Tacoma for anything other than "Camry duty", and plan to keep the truck for more than a year, I'd recommend spending the $$$ on some real springs.

I had the same thing happen, but I had the 4 leaf pack. I bought my truck last may, had it inspected at a Toyota dealer. They tell me the truck has a broken leaf. I mention the TSB, they say the truck is out of warranty-it's an 08, and they can't help me. They quote me $1800 to change out both springs, I say no thanks. I buy it at a reduced price and drive it home 700km. A month later the leaf pops out like yours. I ordered alcan hd leafs and install them myself. The recall comes out soon after and I'm a little pissed. I use my truck to tow and haul stuff once in a while. Glad you caught it before it punctured you gas tank.

Save your receipt. Seek reimbursement from Toyota when recall is in full swing.
