Hey so I'm a new owner of a 2004 Tacoma, no mods on it or anything besides the usual mud flaps. 2wd. There is a trail around here and some mud, but its nothing really deep just an area to tear up a bit and try to get muddy. I want to try going out on it but I've heard my tacoma will get stuck very easily and the mud will ruin everything underneath. Is this all true? I really want to give it a try and see how my truck handles it. On another note, should I remove the mud flaps? Will I still be able to get a bit dirty with them on?
    Thank you!

Being 2wd you can easily get stuck. make sure you have a friend that has 4wd.
mud can definitely tear things up, but its not going to ruin everything on your truck.

i personally stick away from mud because it sucks to clean, and does ruin parts sometimes. (alternators, starters for instance) but it can be done without hurting anything!

YOLO.. go for it. You can always get pulled out by someone. Way too many variables in that equation for anyone to tell you whether or not you will get stuck.. but I can say for sure that mud isn't going to "ruin" your truck lol.

Mud is good. When I see a muddy truck I look to see who's driving it. It's even better when a Chica is driving.

    Yes sir
Hell ya you should hit some mud, I feel like this isn't a mud bog your going to either haha so just send it and see what happens :D. Worst result would be you get stuck, so bring a shovel and some friends in their trucks or have a bud know you might call to get towed out. :mudding:

Mudding is fun..... however, if you do a lot of it over the years..... it can ruin seals/bearings etc. These things can be replaced.

Think of it this way - Enjoy the truck!!! Your truck is already 11 years old. It doesn't sound like you plan on going mudding on a regular basis. And even if you did - bearings & seals are replaceable. If you own a 3.4L, I can tell you....the first thing that will go bad is the A/C idler pulley. That's the easiest and probably cheapest fix - so no worries.

Don't go mudding alone - bring someone else with you that has a 4X4 and carry recovery gear. Never go into a mud hole without checking its depth first. If you get stuck in deep mud (up to the engine) and the engine stalls, NEVER turn the key to restart the engine. When you get home, spray the truck off ..underneath and the engine bay.

    Have fun!!

Just remember (as everyone else has said) Never go Wheeling or Mudding alone a long with a buddy with 4wd.

But with that being said I have a 2001 Double cab PreRunner TRD Off-Road Package (has Factory E-lockers) made it thru the mud and ive never had to use the locker IMO the mud was slick and had some puddles but I just gassed thru it hoping not to get stuck. However, if I were you becareful in some mud as there could be a deep spot in and water could get into your rear differential (as many others may have said) but to play it safe just do the Rear diff breather mod just search it up they'll come up the search bar is your best friend here.

Have fun and Welcome to TW!

Like everyone else said make sure to have a recovery vehicle with you every time you go! 4wd would be better but if you have a decent set of a/t's and the mud isn't too deep then you'll have some fun! Definitely give it a try bud, it won't hurt anything. :mudding:

    A little a this, a little a that...
Try it! You won't hurt anything. See how you like it vs all the clean up. The sooner you tackle the clean up the easier it is. It's the rule of three: one hour of mud = three hours of cleaning.

I wouldn't say the worst that can happen is you get stuck. There is worse and it happens, irregularly perhaps.

If you can afford to break something and you think it might be fun, go for it. But muddy and money rhyme for a reason, sometimes one follows the other.

I like keeping mud on the outside, although it's not the best for the paint. After I go I really just clean out the engine bay and some of the undercarriage stuff.

If you haven't done it than do it for the experience!Be prepared to possibly get stuck, damage vehicle components over time and extended amounts of detailed car washings. It is and can be a lot of fun.Just know your limitations and respect you may have for your truck.

I'd say go for it man. My buddy's 2WD 4Runner has been through some pretty sloppy mud and come out the other side probably 4/5 times and I've yet to have any problems from light mudding. Trail riding may be more fun for you though. I certainly prefer it

I don't know where this idea that mud will ruin your truck came from, I've been driving in the mud all my life and never had mud ruin a truck yet. Is there a chance something could break? Yes, but something could also break just cruising down the highway. 9 times out of 10 the only thing that's gonna get hurt from mudding is your eyes the next time your on your back underneath doin a repair. I got buddies that hate the mud because its "hard" on vehicles but yet they are more than happy to go bounce around in the rocks which in my opinion is way harder on stuff. Like mentioned never wheel alone, especially bein your only 2x4, and go have a good time then just whip out the garden hose when you get home and hose it down before the mud hardens.
