My new truck arrives in a month.

My mechanic says I should change oil after the first 2,000 km.

My dealer says it is not necessary.

    What do you say?

I do mine every 3,000 miles but only because that's what I've been doing my whole life.

Staying with the standard interval is fine. But if you're OCD or buy into the idea of metal shavings released during the break in, then change it after 1000 miles or so. Won't hurt it if you do.

I changed mine after the first 1000 miles then again after another 4000. I plan to follow the factory interval from there. I did the first thousand because i couldn't find a straight answer as to whether or not the engines are broken in at the factory then given fresh oil before shipment. $30 in oil is cheap insurance i thought. Always used synthetic. Castrol titanium at the first change then royal purple at 5000 and thereafter.
