You can definitely do it in 1-day, or an overnighter, but there's enough cool stuff to explore that I'd say it's worth taking the time to make it a longer trip. I really liked the spur down to the river through Lathrop canyon, well worth the time it took - especially considering I wasn't on a time crunch, since we camped right by the entrance to the canyon. There's a short hike out to the Gooseneck that's worth doing, but it's quick (I was hoping that the run down Lathrop would be a scouting mission for night pictures, but that didn't pan out), and then there's a 7ish mile out and back right by where we camped the first night to Upheaval Dome that's really cool, I didn't get time to hike it, but I've seen it from above many times - really cool!

Over all, I'd say the way we did it this trip was pretty awesome, it made for a long second day, but if I were to do it again, I'd probably try to do it the same way, so I could get sunset at Gooseneck, and hike to Upheaval Dome - which are really the two bucket list items for me on the trail that I've yet to squeeze in. I would probably try to start the first day around noon, rather than our meetup in Moab at 2 and roll out, as to give us plenty of time to hike Upheaval.

^^^ Good info. The Lathrop canyon trail and hike are both on the to do list. I'll probably add a day to the trip. Thx

Great build! I live in Denver, and will installing a 3" lift at the end of the month. Did you have a good experience with whomever you used to do your alignment? If so, any recommendation?

I do the lifetime alignment service with Firestone. It's awesome because I can bring the truck back in once springs settle in, or once I adjust coilovers...replace ball joints, UCA's... or just every 3k miles, and they don't object. Best part is there's a location in Evergreen that I can drop the truck off in the morning, and go mountain biking for a few hours, then just ride back to the shop.

After putting my dog down a couple of months ago, I came extremely close to selling off the truck, my cameras, and throwing out most of my belongings and just leaving. Since then I've been trying to keep my shit together.

Generally speaking I'm probably keeping the tuck. I bought some CBI ditch light brackets and installed those on Friday, went to install the lights and got one on, but the hardware on the other was messed up, so I'm going to work on a fix for that. My switch panel has a short in it somewhere, so I need to pull that here soon so I can have lights again so I can get out in the backcountry at night again. I'm ditching the rear tire carrier and relocating the spare to the bed soon, and building a small rack that'll go above it, and will soon be doing the underbed slideout. Need to modify the bed a little bit before I can move forward with that plan, but hope to move forward with that sooner than later.

I'm getting rid of the 42" curved LED bar and first gen tacoma roof mounts if anyone wants either. The light bar has some moisture built up inside, it'll need to be pulled apart and cleaned, then sealed up, but works great... light up all the things.

Awesome truck, making me think of pulling my bed off too! Any idea what you're looking to get out of the light bar and mounts? Why are you removing btw?

Light bar sold. Mounts are still available.

I couldn't see a damn thing with the bar on, too much glare from the hood, and then bouncing off the dash..and onto the windshield. I'll reassess my capacity for roof lights if/when I get a Prinsu rack :)

    So.....

LT of SFA? The possibility of this happening come this winter is high, funded by some fab work and projects. Something big will happen as long as I don't need shoulder surgery, otherwise the fab work will just go to fund being cut apart.

Geez thanks for turning me onto those racks, now one more thing I'll be dreaming of! Good to know on the light bar, always what I figured about the glare being an issue, although my green truck might not be as bad...

It would be cool to see a solid axle build. What's got you torn between the two?

Not sure which would be the best direction for my interests.

LT has the benefits of lower unsprung weight, improved ride and handling over SFA, and shorter down time for install/etc.

SFA... is just burly. Greater unsprung weight would contribute to poorer mileage, less desirable handling on the highway, etc. I think LT 4wd would be plenty strong for me, but SFA also equals a fun project.

LT is plenty good in my book, but it seems like SFA is a rarity. That and it would be nice to crawl over a boulder the size of a Ford festiva... Judging on your build post rollover I can't help but envision solid axle. How big are you looking to go tire wise?

I think SFA build would be fun, but I think a project like that is impractical given how I use the truck, and where I expect I'll reasonably take it. I know all of the technical benefits of SFA, but I think most of its benefits are kind of beyond what I would ever really put to use. I don't see going above 35's at the very most, most likely I'll stick to 33's, though.

Seems practical. LT and 35s will get you by far better than most. I've been tossing around the idea of 35s w/ a regear. I like the look and use of larger tires on minimal lift (3"). What LT kits have you been checking out?

I love the look of 35's on these, but the amount of tubbing that you've gotta go through to clear them may or may not be worth it. I need to regear as it is, so who knows... might shoot straight to 4.88's and 35's.

I've got my eye on the Camburg kit, or MCM Fab, the latter is really appealing and looks very nicely made.

I think it's completely worth it. There are enough write-ups to get through the process, and I have yet to read of an absolute tubbing nightmare on TW. If I may ask, what makes you want 4.88 over 4.56. I've read enough threads on the topic to give me a headache.

The Camburg kit is nice and highly talked of, but that MCM kit looks pretty beefy in their photos. I've never heard of it until now.
