    Hey guys,
I'm wanting to take my boys camping on memorial day weekend. I'm wondering if there are some good places to go that are relatively close to the central valley. I don't mind driving 3 - 4 hours to get to the location. I have a 4x4 so the terrain doesn't have to be smooth but I don't want it to be to crazy to get there.

    thanks for the input

One can never have too many light bars.
There's always Yosemite. I also like Lassen up HWY 89. Mendicino National Forest and The Los Padres National Forest are also two nice spots if you're looking to go near the ocean.

Never been there, I will have to check it out thanks Glen.

I have thought about Lassen as well. Maybe it's time to make a trip up there. On the coast sounds really good also.

I used to head up to Quincy when I was younger. The drive up was always nice, driving by the river that ran along hwy 70.

With sliders I would say just head to slickrock. It's about 3 - 3 and a half hours from fresno.

Just go until you can't go. It doesn't get tough until the first obstacle which is just after where we usually go to camp for the night. It's a pretty well traveled route so if you get stuck, someone will help you out.

You could go to lake Shasta I haven't been off road there but there looks to be some good terrain.

I've always camped in the Plumas national forest off highway 70. Beautiful out there, shooting, fishing, 4 wheeling, lakes, hikes...it has everything.

John, im not sure how memorial weekend is but kennedy meadows up 108 is nice. There is a lake just south (relief reservoir) that is a great hike and the streams have good trout.
