This customer wanted me to polish his paint and get the most defects out as i could as he was putting an exo-cage on this coming week. I honestly have never seen paint as hammered as this. There were tons of trail rash as you can see in the pictures. Lots of deep scratches with a lot of thin ones as well. He also just ran the Rubicon so i was up to a pretty heavy task. Owner did not want to have me touch the windows because he honestly didnt care. He didnt want me to touch the undercarriage nor the tires but i couldnt resist. I had to go through a few different products and pads before i finally found one that worked for this paint and situation. This was also the first detail ive done while "mobile". What a pain, i dont know how others can do it, i much prefer home field advantage. This one took roughly 5 hours to complete.

    Process/Products

SCG Strip Wash w/ Wash Wedge
CG Medium Grade Clay w/detail spray as lube
    Flex 3401
    PC 7424
    3" Medium Cut Pads
    7" Medium Cut Pads
    5" MF Medium Cut Pads
    Shine Supply Classic Cut
    SCG Acrylic Adhesive
    Adams In N Out Spray
    SCG Trim Conditioner
    PERL for the tire dressing
    Adams Undercarriage Spray

Nice! On average how much does something like that cost to have done? Obviously mine isn't near that bad, but I'm thinking at some point I might get something like that done depending on cost.

It all depends on the severity of the paint and what the end user wants. Do they want perfection or do they just want a quick polish. This would have been upwards of $450+.

We traded detail for some fab work.

This gives me hope! My truck is a 2013 and already has quite the pinstriping from off roading. Perhaps I will think about getting it professionally detailed one day and then maybe getting clear bra for the door panels. Nice work!

He has so much invested in that truck, paying $500 1-2 times a year to keep up with the paint will only preserve the value and look of his FJ. Nice job, I need to whip out my Porter Polisher next month.

I use Adam's polishes and they have 3 different pads and polishes depending on swirl and scratch severity. For a full detail for me it takes about 6+ hours. Exhausting.

thanks everyone. You're talking about the older 3 step, they didnt have any compounds strong enough to tackle this paint.

That looked like a borderline wet sand job. Good work. Black looks the best but it is a bear to stay on top of. Do you have a paint thickness gauge and if so what were the before and after numbers?

i had forgotten my gauge on this one. Since i went mobile over an hour away i had forgotten a few items. He had never had it polished nor painted.

I assume shine supply has more cutting power?

Little bit more. The classic cut does. They make a flat top which is their more severe but I'm all out of it.

Classic cut is a good one step style. It finishes down amazing and no need for another step. It's a good product. Long work time as well.
