my glove compartment light is missing?

I looked and the hole is empty where it snaps into plus I see no switch for it anywhere so is the switch built into the light socket snap in thing?

am I right to assume every truck has one or do some not have it?

also how does the glove box come out so I can find mine and/or install one there?

I see the bolts holding the glove box in but is there any snaps or clips or anything I need to know about to take it out?

 

I have an '02 and the light is behind a round grate on the "ceiling" of the glovebox. I attached a picture of the grate hanging down, no need to remove the glovebox on mine. My bulb was burned out and it is oh so tiny, also picture attached. I have heard glovebox light is on whenever running lights are, i.e., no headlamps on/no glovebox light. I managed to pull my bulb and keep meaning to pick one up at the Toyota dealer when I am down there on other business, but I keep forgetting..
I would be interested if anyone has done a mod to improve these glove box lamps. Everytime I have seen a post on these it involves a burned out bulb!

 

Replace with an L.E.D. would be sweet... and bright!

 

mine is just an empty hole where the light socket "should be" so I have to go looking for it in there somewhere because I "assume" its back there, but looking at your picture, the lip looks like it would not be something that could go completely through the hole.

well as to doing a mod??? I do have the spare bulb and socket from the turn signal I replaced that had a broken lens. might be a little bit over kill though to have an amber 1156 bulb in there lol.

im thinking the same as you, put in a modded socket and switch that looks better.

im going to look for it and if the light is behind there somewhere, i'll just snap it in place and change the bulb (I assuming if the bulb lit up at night then so would something under the dash to see it)

I figure the chevy trucks had simple little push switches and horizontal light socket, that would be my first thought to see what that light looked like but then there are the LED trim lights that might be better.

Maybe under the doors or rocker panel so the passenger has light on the ground when they open the door or a white reverse light strip the width of and wrapped around the corners of the rear bumper. Don't forget red clearance lights on the back and amber on the front of the cap, too! Oh, God no...
